Anime Entries Confirmed - Please Check Your Videos

Postby AbsoluteDestiny » Wed Jan 14, 2004 1:46 pm

OK, I've finally gone through every-last anime entry on the org database. There's over 2600 of them and they all had to be checked one by one ><

I've made aliases for as many duplicates that I could spot, corrected as many errors as possible and have listed a whole bunch of titles to be "non-anime".

However, nobody is perfect and I'm expecting that there will be some mistakes.

So, I would like everyone to please go to their profile and double check the list of anime in all of your videos to see if there are any mistakes.

It is sometimes likely that an anime title may have changed since you last saw it - Oh! My Goddess becoming Ah! My Goddess and so on. If something has changed but it is totally wrong, please let me know.

You may have "Unknown" listed in your video. If you have this listed it means that the previous entry was something that wasn't a title such as "etc." "surprise" "don't ask". "Unknown" is classed as non-anime and will disqualify you from the VCA if it is the only anime in your video.

Sometimes people were not specific enough when listing an anime. So, any listing that are vague such as "Sol Bianca" (Which version, old or new?). Vague entries have generally been aliased to either the first iteration of a show or the most popular entry (whichever is more appropriate). Of course it's impossible to know which a person really wanted in their video and the same entry will be used by two different people for different purposes. Hence, everyone will have to check their videos.

Also, US versions of shows and fandubs of shows have been aliased to become the complete version of the show e.g. Card Captors will now list as Card Captor Sakura (as the footage is the same) and Evangelion: Redeath is now listed as Neon Genesis Evangelion. Obvious exceptions are where the US version has notably different/altered footage - Robotech has it's own entry, as it should.

I will try and fix as many corrections as I can. Editing specific videos is a little tricky with the current tools but I will do my best. Entries that need changing to avoid VCA disqualification get priority :)

My only complaint is that YnM (Yami no Matsuei) got changed to DoD (Descendants of Darkness). That'll be hard to get used to.

But I guess I'll survive...maybe... >.>

You are not alone - it happened to my video too. However, I was told to honour official english language versions of titles over japanese ones. Plus at least this one actually is a translation not some silly made-up title like Knight Hunters or Pilot Candidate.

A *very* good point. I still remember searching amv stores for Weiss Kruez and none having it listed in their databases...I never thought to look for some English derivative... >.<

Small problems... none are VCA qualifiers.

This video uses TV series exclusively, not OVA (Miyu was previously not separated between OVA and TV when entered into the catalogue.)

Also, there are some bizzarre changes in what is an isn't marked as spoilers... (I'm sure these were previously correct)

Given how little footage from the 1975 series was used (because it is terrible, it's in there as a joke on a lyric reference), it is impossible for there to be any form of spoiler with it.

Similar case, Rockman X5 had no spoilers considering the only bit used was the intro sequence (well, and the Japanese TV advertisement for the game, which had some nice CG ^^).

OK the Miyu one can be fixed if you log an anime change with the Bug report forum.

I think the spoiler problem is actually to do with the member page not closing the tag. On your individual profile it's not listed as cointaining spoilers. Same with the other video - can you check that for me?

Hey AD,

You're right, it's a tag somewhere, the individual video pages list fine and are correctly marked as not containing spoilers.

Bug report submitted (I think, the pending requests are recorded but it didn't kick me out of the bug reporting system/page ^^''').

Thanks a lot,
TRZ

I distinctly remember submitting my <a href=http://www.animemusicvideos.org/members/members_videoinfo.php?v=28579>X TV series AMV</a> with X (TV) in the information. Now it is listed as X 1999 (Movie). Can this please be fixed?

You erred with Metropolis - you called it "Metropolis (Rin Taro)." The director's name is "Rintaro," no space. It's his surname [in the American sense of the word "surname"].

"Taro Rin" is a common misnomer.

"Rintaro" is a pen name, the director's actual name is Shigeyuki Hayashi. (I just looked it up, I was mistaken when I said I thought Rintaro was his surname.)

As an aside, I just submitted a correction to IMDb. :)
