Org Web Server Upgrading

Postby Phade » Tue Jun 24, 2003 2:31 pm

Hey All,

Just to let you know, the Org web server is being upgraded. Rackshack is having a $1 setup fee on current machines so I couldn’t resist. :-) The server going from its current single P4 1.7G with ATA drive to a dual Xeon 2.0G with SCSI drive. The nifty thing is that with hyperthreading turned on with the Xeons, the OS thinks there are 4 processors instead of just two! Whoo hoo!!

But, the site will be down for a little while (I'm expecting around 10-15 mins) while the current database and site is zipped up, moved over to the new machine, and installed. After that, there shouldn’t be any downtime while the site DNS moves to the new machine. The downtime will be either this evening or tomorrow.

Again, just letting you know. Thanks again and have fun!! ^_^

Oh good, he's doing this in the evening. For a moment, feared he would do this during the middle of the day, when I'm stuck at work, and so desperately need the contact to the outside world that the forums gives me. (Grin)

Hey ZeWrestler,

This is just a web server and not a storage server, but it will have a 73G HD. I plan on ordering the storage server either at the beginning or the middle of July.

Hey,

The first attmept at moving the database over met with some strange results. Attempt #2 will happen either tonight or tomorrow.

It's wierd. The database was successfully moved. The web server could connect to the the then external database server. Information could be pulled from the database. But, for some reason, only half of the web page would be kicked out of the web server. No errors, just half the page. I switch the DB pointer back to the old internal DB and everything worked just fine. Hmmm...

Just letting you know. Have fun!! ^_^

Hey All,

The database server upgrade is now complete. If you see any issues, please let me know here. The site should now be rather snappy all the time instead of lag during peak times.

Thanks again and have fun!! ^_^

Thanks for your continued effort to make it easier for us to download AMV's.

Hey,

Whups! Note to self: If your're going to switch the database location, make sure ALL servers know that the location has been switched. Seems I forgot to tell the storage server that little bit of information. ;-) It's all fixed now.

Thanks again and have fun!! ^_^
