The point was, the scores WOULD stay for awhile, but they would get cleared every 4-6 months, dropping the malicious content while keeping the (hopefully) constructive content. I know the top and bottom scores are both discounted from the top 10% listing, but lets say you have a ~9.0 average, until a couple of people nail you with ~1.5 composite scores, one hits you with a 2.2 score because he has a beef with you on the forums, and another nails you with an all 1's because he wants his video which is at #95 now, to raise up a couple spots to 80 (you can be sure he did this to a couple dozen other people as well as you). Suddenly the first malicious score factors into your total far more than it typically would, it no longer being the lowest score.koronoru wrote:If we were to follow Dannywilson's idea and auto-delete ops with average scores less than 1.5, then why bother allowing scores to go that low anyway? Why not just make it a "1.5 to 10" scale?
Mine go to 11.
I've personally had both items happen to me on several occasions usually right after one another, or when a video sits on or above the top 25%.
My $.02.

Enh. Maybe it's different for those of us who are popular enough to have significant numbers of opinions at all. I tend to think that I'm doing pretty well to get opinions, period, no matter how bad they are; if I were well known enough for people to have feuds against me and be motivated enough to make fake opinions like that, well, maybe I'd feel differently then, but at the moment I think that'd be pretty cool.

Only way I see Danny's way working, is if you delete it based on how much input is in the comment boxes. A video of all 1s should definately have ALOT of things listed in the comment boxes on what they can do to improve. Basically, to me, an opinion with all 1s where the opper gave enough consideration to explain in the comments on why its all 1s, and what the creater can do to improve that score, should stay. Ops that just say:
1 1 1 1 1 1 1
The good:
Nothing!
the bad:
Everything!
General:
You suck!
should probably get deleted. However if the comments goes on to list the bad things about the video then it can be considered a genuine comment.
Ofcourse this can still be abused, as all the oper would have to do is type in a bunch of nonsense if the script worked on the usefullness score of the opinion. so its still not perfect. But it would weed out alot of them I think.

If that's what happens, you can say goodbye to about 500 each of Koop and ADSousaphonist wrote: No, it would be RIGHT to report the video as a stolen vid, and let it be adressed, as scores have nothing to do with a intellectual property issue.
I could see a system for deleting all 10's scores being reasonable, but a 9.5+ is just screwed up.

Sorry to revive a 2-week dead post, but I just became aware of this 'deletion' feature.
I've been patiently waiting for the promised method to replace my uploaded video with a higher quality remastered version, and I want to know if this is that method. Judging by the remarks here, it may be, but I want to make sure that the deletion feature will in fact remove the Local Download video from the server and leave the info/opinions intact.
I'd appreciate it if someone would confirm this for me, since I'm understandably hesitant to hit the Delete Video button without knowing exactly what it's for. I don't really want to accidently purge my Star Score.
Thanks!

Hey,
You are correct. Once a deletion request has been given, it will be reviewed by a server admin. If the request is just to replace the existing video file, all other information, including star ratings, will remain.
This has actually caused some confusion when a video file has been deleted due to upload rule violation, the star ratings remain even though the video is not available locally.
I hope this helps.

also just making sure
if you want the ENTIRE video entry to be deleted, download/vid info/stars/ops/entire existance of video, can you just ask for it all to be gone?
i'm specifically asking for the case of re-masters, if we have a video up for local, but then we accidently create a NEW entry for the remaster and we UPLOAD the remaster into the new video entry, then can we delete the ENTIRE old entry and just keep the remaster?
this would follow along with the 'one-entry-per-video' rule

Hey,
The point of the catalog is to list every AMV that was ever released to the public. If a video was released to the public either by entering into a convention contest or made availabe for public download, the video entry should remain in the catalog.
Remasters should be uploaded to the original video spot since the video is exactly the same as the original, frame-for-frame, except for better visual quality (ex., DVD source instead of VHS source). For remasters, simply request for the file to be deleted so that the new one can be uploaded.
If the video is modified (scenes changed), the video is then technically a completely different video since it is not the same as the original. These videos are generally called "remixes". Remixes should have their own indepenant video entry into the catalog since they are technically a different video.
It is difficult to "accidentily" create a video entry and upload a video.
Eventually there will be a "merge" function. This will mainly be used by collaborators who put a video entry into each of their video listings before the collaborators system was developed.
I hope this helps. ^_^
