Need help with Windows Movie Maker.

Post by Lou-chan » Mon Oct 23, 2006 10:49 am

I've wanted to make an AMV, parody clips and other random stuff out of the movie Adolescence of Utena which I recently managed to get my hands on.
The movie is about one and a half hour long and is split up into two parts, both AVI.
The strange thing is...
I can import the second part into Windows Movie Maker but not the first part. I just get this message as soon as I try:

D:\Lou\BitComet\Downloads\[anime_fin]_Utena\[anime_fin]_Adolescence_of_Utena_CD1_DVDRiP.avi gick inte att importera. Odefinierat fel

Translated from Swedish to English is would mean something like "failed to be imported. Unidentified problem."
What's wrong? How do I fix it? Can I fix it?

Your clips are probally encoded in xvid or divx. Most editing programs don't work well with those formats. You need to encode them with a codc like Hufftuv.

I have no idea, but: Please forgett about WMM it is only a crapy thing for nothing.
If you don´t want to buy or "get" an other better programm you can use other freeware stuff like:
http://www.jahshaka.org/

But plz no WMM ;_;

Also: DVD Footage brings much better quality than fansub episodes.

It's not fansubbed, it's DVD RAW.
And I don't really mind buying a better "AMV-making" program.
But I have no idea what I should get that is as easy to use and understand.

Oh yeah,
When you get another editing program you are still gonna have to convert your clips with a different codec...

[Anime Fin RAWS] = Divx or Xvid

This problem is common across ALL video editing programs, so don't feel like you need to get a new one right away. Like moonie said, check the codec, and if it's DivX or XviD then you're going to have problems and you're going to have to re-encode your clips.

WMM is not a bad program to get started on; the only real problems it has are stability issues. If those would get fixed then I'd probably go back to using it every now and then. But don't underestimate WMM; some pretty freakin' cool videos have been made with it.

Uhm... MAGIX Video Studio deLuxe can work with XviD and DivX without re encoding, but yeah... it is not freeware :? (50$ for the studio only)
