framerate help

Postby dowhatnow » Thu Sep 28, 2006 2:38 pm

I have decided to at least start on another video, but it's a 30 (or 29.97 as the case may be) fps source video.

My question is: can I go ahead and edit in 29.97/30 fps and still be fine? I've read in the EADFAG that it shouldn't be a problem, but I wanted to gather opinons before I screwed something up completely.

Thanks.

Yes, it's perfectly fine to edit in 29.97fps.

However, is your video progressive or interlaced? I really don't recommend editing interlaced...

Ah. I'm wrong. DGIndex lists the following info:

Video

Aspect Ratio: 16:9
Frame size: 720x480
Profile main@main
Frame Rate: 23.976 fps
Video Type: FILM 96%
Frame Type: Progressive
Frame Struct: Frame

The only things that change at all are:

Video Type
Frame Type

Video type and Frame type start at NTSC and Interlaced, respectively.

They graduate to Progressive and FILM 93-97% as the video progresses past the opening credits (production studios, etc.), and the Frame Type hovers between 96% and 97% after that.

Would I need to add a deinterlace command to the VDM script when I import the project before I start editing?

Thanks for the info by the way.

Try "Force Film" in DGIndex. Chances are high that you don't need to deinterlace at all.

Did that. Will need some post-production, but most vids do.

Thanks again.
