what is a good editing program?

Postby Dantemaycry » Fri Sep 22, 2006 9:42 pm

for a long time I have been using the very basic and troublesome windows movie maker. I want to know what is a better editing program for the PC. I am on a little budget so i can't buy anything that is about $500 (over-exageration). So please help me in my perdicamint.

free/open source software

other than that, many people use sony vegas/permium version, ulead video studio, magix movie edit, or one of the adobe premiere programs (premiere pro is out of your price range)

the best way to decide is to download trials and see which one you like best

No, that's actually not an over-exaggeration. Adobe Premiere Pro and Sony Vegas Video, last I checked, both retailed for around $700.

Have you tried the <a href="http://www.animemusicvideos.org/help/software/">Software Reviews</a> section of the site?

(I swear that's one of the most underappreciated sections of the site by forumgoers...)

you know this has been asked so many times...
Image
"The people cannot be [...] always, well informed. The part which is wrong will be discontented, in proportion to [...] the facts they misconceive. If they remain quiet under such misconceptions, it is lethargy, the forerunner of death to public liberty. What country can preserve its liberties, if it's rulers are not warned [...] that this people preserve the spirit of resistance? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time, with the blood of patriots and tyrants."-Thomas Jefferson

That was used copies only. As you can see, <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Vegas-6-%2b-DVD/dp/B000E15NHK/sr=1-3/qid=1159021942/ref=pd_bbs_3/102-6736011-9408911?ie=UTF8&s=software">new copies of Sony Vegas 6 + DVD</a> retail for $900, and <a href="http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Vegas-5/dp/B00078ZZXC/sr=1-15/qid=1159021978/ref=sr_1_15/102-6736011-9408911?ie=UTF8&s=software">Vegas 5</a> (without DVD) for $600.

on the other hand, if you're a student you can get academic discounts on most software.

http://www.creationengine.com/html/p.lasso?p=13920
(premiere, after effects, photoshop, encore DVD, audition for under 600.

http://www.creationengine.com/html/p.lasso?p=13273
(vegas 7 + dvd for 260.00)

If someone is serious about getting some editing software, but doesn't have a lot of money, older versions are the way to go.

I didn't know it existed until last week, and I found it accidently through a Google search.

Magix's video editors provide a lot of options for a very good price ($50 or thereabouts). There's no direct avs support, but it takes fake avis with no problems.

You can still get Vegas 6 for $99 (link).

No that was sold new. If you click on the link were I typed "see", click on were it says "used and new" it HAS a bunch of links, mentioning that it is being sold new by amazon for $327.99, $316.95 new by Office Depot, $310.00 by ghound, and the most expensive vegas 6 they sell there for new is $499.99

Again I've been seeing it for cheap all over the place.

Not as cheap as the Vegas + DVD package but why would you need the DVD part unless you are doing DVD authoring. So no you wont have to pay around 600 dollars to use Vegas 6.0, you could get it for 300 dollars less.
