it would help to know what features you are looking for in a program.

if you want a program that makes "good" amvs, that can be any program
if by good quality, you mean good video/audio quality, you should take a look at the guides avaliable from the members main page

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/phpBB/v ... hp?t=46136
start there, you can also check out ddclip.

this should allow you to export uncompressed, and compress the final product yourself in a program like virtualdubmod
but be aware that you will have to take/make your own clips

but you will only get as good of video quality out as you put in.
when you say HQ clips, what format/codec are they in/encoded with?
and what is the source of your footage?

The clips I get are usually encoded with DivX and I either get them from animeupload or janime sometimes other places though.

If your clips or in divx you need to convert them to uncompressed or a codec that works good with the editing program.

I would avoid talking about those places you get clips from if i were you ^^

well...divx avi isn't exactly high quality to begin with (with few exceptions...but most divx files aren't too great)
divx is a lossy codec, if you compress that, you will get really bad looking footage as a result.

for higher visual qaulity, you should rip footage from dvds.
check out the guides (especially ErMaC and Absolute Destiny's guide)
this will guide you through the process

if you need a dvd drive, they have become really cheap
newegg is your friend

if you can't/don't want to buy online, just go to your nearest electronics store (BestBuy also has a nice selection of anime dvds...most below msrp)

I recommend bringing them into Virtual Dub and coding them with Intel Indeo 4.5. While it's not the most top notch codec, and it will not maintain perfect quality, it doesn't really matter. Even if you export from WMM with an uncompressed AVI, it still doesn't look perfect. With Indeo, the quality is still pretty nice, and the clips aren't monstorously huge like they would be with a lossless codec like Lagarith or Huffyuv.

If you wanna know what the clip quality would look like, just take a look at any of my newest AMVs, starting with "Give Me Wings" on (Except the Dee Dee Dee Project, that was a MEP of course).

I recommened Indeo to another person, and they seemed quite happy with it.

ya I've bee told many times and thought longabout justripping from DVDs but theres some animes that aren't on DVD so I thought it might just be easier on me if I could just change the codec of my clips or get a different program to make the AMVs

Indeo is free and you should have it on your computer already if you're running Windows.

However, it won't help you, because it's not an editing program; it's a codec.

Easier? Not really. Besides, you can't have perfect quality videos without DVDs. They're worth it. And you should start saving right now for a good editing program. I recommend Sony Vegas. But if you can't do Vegas, Magix is pretty cheap, one of the cheapest really. And if it's good enough for Koopiskeva, it should be good enough for you. xD

Yeah, it cost money, but it's worth it in the end. (If you're serious about being an editor that is.)

Well, it's rare to get "perfect quality" with DVDs, considering how many of them suck, but that's another topic.

Just sharpening a point.
