VirtualDubMod/AVIsynth question

Postby CrackTheSky » Thu Aug 31, 2006 10:54 pm

Ok. I'm trying to figure out VirtualDubMod, and so far I think I've done a good job. I've read multiple tutorials explaining how AVIsynth works with VDM, and I've tried my hand at a few basic scripts, messing most of them up in the process.

Anyway, I want to know if there's a way to overlay two video clips using VDM and/or AVIsynth. I know there's a command for AVIsynth, but I don't understand how to use it, so I was hoping that someone with a better understanding than I have of these two programs could help me. I tried to do it using (I believe) the AVIsynth script "layer", but when I tested it in VDM I got a message saying that AVS only supports YUV or RGB color modes. Or something like that.

How do I get my clips into either of those color modes?

Am I using the right script?

Does any of this even make any sense?

Ok, so I can get the overlay command to work in VDM, but I don't know how to set the values to make the layer on top semi-transparent. The way it opens in VDM, the clip on top is completely opaque. I know there's a layer beneath the one on top because the (very basic) overlay script I used in VDM's script editor opened the files fine and I didn't get an error message.

Basically, I don't understand how one changes the values of the mask, or the blending, or anything.

Help? Or do I need to clarify more, because that wording may be confusing...?

If you can, give me an example of an overlay script that would work. That would help me immensely.

Change the opacity. There's more detailed info here, but all you need to do is write Overlay(a,b,opacity=[0.0-1.0]). It's set to 1.0 by default, which means that the overlay clip is completely opaque.

Ah! Yes! That works! Too bad the quality really sucks...some deinterlacing should fix that, though.

Thanks a bunch.
