DVD2AVI quick Q....

Postby RichLather » Thu Dec 05, 2002 11:52 am

I'm following A&E's new guides, and need to know somtething about the DVD2AVI project... they didn't specify when I'm saving from a VOB file to an AVI which recompression option I should use--I'm guessing either "no recompression" or "huffyuv 2.11". Which should I be using?

If you're doing a whole DVD I'd say to use niether unelss you've got a massive hard drive (120+ GB). If you're doing clips, Uncompressed is best but Huffy is close. If you're really crunched for space, do a 4:2:2 MJPEG.

Good luck!

Rich, unless you're ripping the DVD for a friend or something, you're not really supposed to save as an AVI. You're supposed to save as a Project File to feed into VFAPI/AVISynth.

you really shouldnt ever have to save as avi in DVD2AVI (harhar funny irony eh) since you'll want to IVTC and stuff with avisynth especially for whole DVD rips
save project, not avi

I'm amazed at how many people assume everyone loves avisynth. I always found it to be a pain in the ass to work with and have yet to actually use it. Then again what do I know.

Likewise people who can't figure out how to use it yet, like me. :)

Soooo....I'll save as a project, then try to take it from there.

For some reason I keep trying to find a GUI for AVIsynth. Should I stop? I know about the scripts and such, but it's still something my analog mind cannot yet grasp.

I'm just a simple unfrozen caveman...

There is no GUI for it, unless you consider VDubAVS one.

VirtualDubAVS will let you load in a file directly with AVISynth. It automatically makes the script for you. Just go to File -> Load File through AVISynth (Or something to that effect.)

Thanks.

More questions to come as they occur, I'm sure... I just wish I could take a day off from everything to sit and learn the stuff that's in A&E's guides.

This isn't the sort of thing I can do in blocks of 90-120 minutes at a time.
