Okay it's been awhile a long while since I've made an AMV and now I have Brand new Imac intel. However this new machine brings new problems such as what kind of software can I use to make amv's with? Any help would be great.

For editing on a Mac, you really have two major options: iMovie or Final Cut.

iMovie is usually included on all new Macs, Final Cut you usually have to buy seperately. Current pricing for Final Cut is $300 for Express and $1300 for Pro. Educational discounts are available, but I'm not sure what that pricing is.

For more advice, check out Kirin's iMovie Guide. Most of the information can also be applied to Final Cut. This topic also has some excellent Final Cut advice.

hi i am also a fellow mac user. i have noticed all these really nice guides are for windows and i'm like oh fish sticks, they can't help me, ok so here are some questions i've asked in other threads but now i will ask here because people will know what i am talking about. ok i would like to rip footage from video games and edit them in imovie, i am in the process of reading the imovie guide and it tells all the stuff you need to rip footage off DVDs but will all those things work for video games too? i'm sorta new to this and i'm very confused so if someone could help that would be great, oh and do you need DiVA or not because the guide strongly doesn't recommend it but the example is in DiVA, once again, i'm very confused thanks in advance

Or you could install Windows through Parallels/Boot Camp and use it for your editing on your Mac. Performance is still good from what I've heard.

...not that I'm condoning the use of Windows

DiVA used to be the only free conversion program for VOBs, but now we have MPEG Streamclip, which is much better.

I compiled some Mac AMV info, including how to use DVD footage and how to convert your DVD stuff using MPEG Sreamclip. It's the "Pre-Production (Visual)" page on http://www.ishtori.net.
