VFAPI converter crashes my computer

Postby Melanchthon » Sun Aug 06, 2006 7:20 am

I can convert a simple 'open d2v' script, and I can convert my true script only if I cut it off after the 29.97fps --> 24fps. Attempting to convert the full script results in a BSOD and the following error:

Attempt 1
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000090, 0x036SA738, 0xEE06FBC4, 0x00000000)

Attempt 2
STOP: 0x0000008E (0xC0000090, 0x0304A738, 0xEE448BC4, 0x00000000)

And I didn't feel like crashing it any more after that.

The script itself is pretty complicated, and far too slow for anything but a final render of only the frames that are absolutely necessary. I wanted to use mjpegs of whole vobs for editing and then switch the files for rendering, but if I can't get this working then I'll have to take clips. I really don't want to take clips.

This error is indicative of a hardware problem. Possible problems:

1. You have a bad RAM module.
2. Your RAM configuration is incompatible with WinXP.
3. The video card is bad or the drivers are buggy.
4. You haven't installed WinXP Service Pack 1.

Install WinXP SP1 if you haven't already. Try running MemTest to check your memory, for starters. Find out what video card you have and download updated drivers from the manufacturer's website (particularly important if you're using Nvidia). If you recently upgraded your RAM, remove the new chip and see if the error still occurs.

I put new RAM in (two 512K sticks) at the beginning of the year and haven't had any problems at all until now, and then only under these specific circumstances.

3. The video card is bad or the drivers are buggy.

I'm 95% positive that I don't have one.

4. You haven't installed WinXP Service Pack 1.

The laptop was bought new in 2004, so I doubt this is an issue. It has SP2 on it as well.

I ran Memtest and it got to 335% without any errors, so I ended that and did some more tests (and got some more BSODs for my trouble). It won't crash if I comment out any lines that call RemoveNoiseMC, but VFAPI then tells me the script is invalid. No idea why, everything works fine in VDM. Is it possible that my computer just isn't up to serving this script?
