Should I re-encode these avs files?

Postby Gox777 » Thu Aug 03, 2006 12:53 pm

Right now I have are a few avs scripts pointing to the vob files from my outlaw star dvd. I'm using the tdeint filter and blendbob filter though, so the playback is very slow. Would it be worth it to first encode these avs files before working with them in premiere? I was thinking of either high bit rate mpeg2 files or DVAvi files. (which would be better?)
Or if I really need to, I can work with the avs files directly, rendering each little part as I go. (which takes FOREVER).

My suggestion would be to work with the avs files in vdub(/mod) and take clips from there (using mark-in and mark-out) and then import the individual clips as needed. it'l be a bit slow to work with, but you should be able to jump around using shift+(timebar) slider.

I would definately say avi, using lagaritih or huffyuv as the codec.
although lagarith/huffy files are much larger (still smaller than uncompressed) if you only encode clips (as opposed to entire episodes) you should only need about 4-6GB of space for all the clips in your project

You could do this method and simply omit the filters that slow down the project - then simply add them in later for the final export. But im not sure how the Tdeint or blend bob would mess around with the frames.

Purge- Thanks for the idea, I didn't think of that before. I'm not sure exactly how those filters work either though, so I'll probably just keep them on (better to be safe than sorry).

Kariudo- I thought of that as well, but wanted to avoid it (the idea of doing it clip by clip seemed looong). I started doing this for a few clips though and I'm getting used to it. Guess I'll stick to this method.

Thanks guys.

Maybe I'm a little late here, but... what's your script?
