Scrubbing in not working right in Vegas! Please Help!

Postby x_rex30 » Sat Jul 29, 2006 10:07 pm

When you use the arrow keys left and right in premiere there is a certain type of scrubbing that is done where you can hear the audio at a specific speed for each individual frame. Now you can do something similar in Vegas by holding a specific key and dragging the line that indicates the frame that the video is on left or right. I thought this was the Ctrl key. When I press it it jumps frame to frame the exact same way as it did before when I did the type of scrubbing that is like the way Premiere does it with the arrow keys.. but I do not hear the audio when I use it. I can hear it when I use shift or Alt but I hear it at specific speeds based on how fast I'm draggin that indicator.. but I can't FREAKIN' HEAR IT WHEN I USE CTRL!!!!!!!!! What am I doing wrong here?

and I mean dragging the part at the very top of the indicator connected to the line not the line itself where it would show this Image when you hold Ctrl

The part looks like this..

Image

that is the part you drag when you push Ctrl.. or whatever the button was that I pressed when scrubbing in vegas.. and I'm SURE it was Ctrl.. I've been fixing a lot of stuff on my computer since recently a lot of stuff started acting buggy right after I got my new sound card.. I don't think I deleted something that would require this sort of scrubbing to work. WTF!!??

Here's another screenshots I took

Image

The Ctrl button doesn't do SHIT!!!!!!! It works just the same as if you were to press the arrow keys left or right.. the only thing that is scrubbed is the video and I can not hear the audio and I'm sure it's not suppose to work this way. I had some error a while back that I got when I opened up Vegas.. had something to do with some sort of audio not working. I went online to fix the problem and everything seemed fine once it got fixed. I think I had to disable something. But when I got rid of the error message I could still hear the audio just fine when playing it back.. I don't think I messed with the scrubbing feature after I got rid of that error but I may have done something to mess up the scrubbing with the ctrl button. I have no idea what it is. I bet non of you have any idea as well and I'm probably screwed till I throw my computer out the window and get a new one. The reason I say that because I've been getting system beeps when closing apps or folders sometimes and looking online for answers it seems to be some hardware problem witch I can't figure witch type of hardware problem exactly that I'm getting.     >:O I'm so freekin' mad I want to hit my computer with a bazooka in a sense then throw it at some retarded kid. I swear this shit is pissing me off.. Please anyone help me to figure out what the problem is.

The only thing I could possibly think of is the audio format. What is it?

both wav and mp3 don't work. Audio that worked fine before when scrubbing in projects I have no longer work. I can scrub every way except the dragging the playhead with ctrl method. I've never felt more evil in my life.. I have the need to hurt someone! :? This is the key thing I need for timing and I can't even use it. Without this Vegas is nothing to me and I'm not planning on moving to premiere if I can't get it to work again..

I'm not familiar with vegas' interface... does it not provide waveforms for the audio? (that's usually how I do timing)

It does and I have used it for timing.. but hearing what I'm doing like you would when pressing left or right in premiere is very important to me. I think even Zarxrax likes to use it even though just analyzing the waveforms could be almost as easily effective. I want to hear how the key noise sounds at that one frame. I've been using this method since I started editing 6 years ago. It's one of my favorite features. Vegas scrubs exactly the same as it does in Premiere with the certain scrubbing effect I'm trying to get. When you hear the audio within one frame by pressing the arrow keys in Premiere it'll sound exactly the same at the same speed in Vegas when doing the scrubbing method that I think is holding Ctrl and moving the playhead(again I'm positive it's the Ctrl key that does this, but I'm getting mind boggled with it not working)

THANK YOU GOD!!!! I NOW BELIEVE IN YOU!!!! I NOW KNOW GOD IS MY SAVIOR!!! I SHALL REPENT FOR ALL THE SINS I'VE DONE AND BEG FOR YOUR FORGIVENESS!!! THANK YOU!!! TRULY THANK YOU!!!

Anyway I got rid of that weird error message I got by going to the preferences in Vegas and changing the audio device settings. I also had to do some changes in my premiere program because the problem I was getting also had to do with something in there conflicting with Vegas. I didn't want to change it back to what it was set at before but I went ahead and did that now the scrubbing works! It was set to "Adobe Default Windows 1.5" and THAT was causing the problem. I went ahead and set it back to "Microsoft Sound Mapper" and then it went back to working. I was afraid doing this will create the error message to come up again but I restarted Vegas and it didn't have the error show up. Well I've been doing a lot of tweaks to make things run faster and fixing problems with the registry so maybe that is what kept the error message from showing up again.. then again maybe it could of been something else. All I can say is I'm really happy.. ^___^ All seems well now and I don't need any more help in trying to figure this out. Thanks for trying to help BasharOfTheAges I appreciate it! ^____^

I felt bad that nobody was offering to help, though I really didn't give any useful advice.

If that's all it takes, how does a high-ranking position in an undead army of justice that may or may not be mine sound?
