Compression Question

Postby FurorDraconis » Fri Jul 14, 2006 10:05 pm

Just a simple question I hope.
I am having issues with compressing this file to fit the 100MB allowed for a-m-v.org. I swear I have downloaded many AMV's from others that were larger than 100MB but I have no clue how they got them to work. Do you have to ask special permission?
My AMV was made with Huffyvu and Adobe Premiere and it was compressed from a 4Gig vid down to a 314MB vid. I can't seem to get it to compress more than that and I use TMPGEnc.
If anyone could give me advice that would be great. I just want to get my poor video onto my account so others can finally download my vid and this is all that stands in my way.

The best advice I can give is this guide:

http://www.animemusicvideos.org/guides/avtech/

If you haven't read all of it, you should. However, if you're generally familiar with the process, just check out the stuff near the bottom about final processing and stuff.

Hope that helps.

Try xvid, a larger font, and the proper forum.

Thank you Jen for the advice.
I have already viewed that link and just so you know, I followed Vicbond's guide as well. Therefore I of course have used not only Huffyvu but xvid and/or divx and all are still too large. I appreciate you all replying. And as far as Mpeg4, my adobe won't let me use it without the proper plugin that I have been unable to locate so I just don't use it.
I will keep trying other options for now and gomen for posting on the wrong forum Orwell. I am not a forum person per say as it is too judgmental in my opinion but I realize that is no excuse.
Once more, thank you for your time

It was a video made in dedication to my anime club members, it's 11 minutes long. (the longest I have ever done and I am glad it's done *phew*) Therefore it is rather large but they asked me to put it on a-m-v.org so they could download it but so far... you know my issues.

You know, for longer AMVs you CAN ask permission to upload a larger video.

I was guessing so, but being I have never made such a long video before I never looked into who I need to contact about that nor if I even could ask someone. Now that I know I can, might I ask whom I contact if my last effort I am trying atm doesn't work? Once more, thank you for your time.

You can do it right in the uploading process:

A-M-V.Org wrote:* Video files larger than 100M. This should be more than enough: the average video size on the org is ~30M. Special permission to upload larger files may be requested on the next page. Special conditions include things like very long videos and multi-editor videos.

I must be blind, I promise you I was looking for that as I got the video ready to upload but I never saw anything more than a messages saying that it needs to be no larger than 100MB. But I will try and see if I can see it again, being I already have it entered I don't know if I can get that option again but I shall try. Thanks again for the advice.

Even 11 minute videos can be compressed down to a reasonable size. Don't be afraid to use min quant 3 or even 4 in XviD. The quality is still reasonable, without sticking us with insane filesize.

Basically, we're all much happier if you don't do an oversize upload.

And, of course, don't forget to compress audio.

Don't worry, I do compress everything, I have been making AMV's for some time so I am not too much an idiot. I just have never made one this big and with this good of quality. I can't seem to get it to go smaller than 217MB so I am going to have to ask permission if I can find where to ask it... so far I am seeing nothing but I am still searching the forums...

What's the framerate and resolution? Did you try using XviD or h264 yet, and if so, what kind of file sizes were you getting?
