Premiere Pro and make video fit to my size

Postby burntresistor » Sat Jul 08, 2006 4:51 pm

Well, to explain it: I know it's possible to change the size of the video shown to any shape. Most the time they are rectangles. I noticed I cant change the shape in pro.

my goal is to have two separate videos running next to each other in rectangles. If anyone knows of a site that has video demonstrations that would be great otherwise I hope its not too much trouble describing it.

There's probably an easier way to do this, but here's my way:

1)Create an image with the same resolution of your video project. Supposing you want them to play side by side without any space between them, paint the right half of the image white and the left half black. Save it.

2)Import to your main sequence, or preferrably to a new one. Right-click it and deselect "Enable clip ojn timeline". Stretch it as far as you want your side-by-side videos to play.

3)Drag your right-side video onto another layer on the timeline and add the effect "Track Matte". On the effect options, select the video layer where your black-and-white image is, and select the option "Track Luma" (The default should be "Track Alpha").

4)Do the same with the left imge, but select "Invert Matte"

5)Use the Motion commands to center the images and put the parts you want on screen.

I wrote this from memory, so some of the options might be written differently, but you can find them.
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

garbarge mattes are your friend...

step by step

1. go to video effects > keying
2. select the garbarge matte you want (4, 8, 16 point)
3. select the video segment you want to alter
4. drag effect onto video
5. click effects tab on window
6. click on the garbarge matte heading you should see a square with point appear in the video frame.
7. move the point where ever you want

note it will look a little pixel blocky but when exported at the end it should be fine. If you want to do more complex shapes (ie ones that require more than 16 points) then the method described by gepetto is best.
