Windows Media Player problem

Postby Harley Quinn » Sat Jul 08, 2006 12:00 am

I am following A & E's guide. I did the colorbar avs script with no problem but when I tried to write a script for the believe mpeg I came upon a problem. WMP opens and says it is playing but nothing is happening, no sound or video, but the clip time 4:11 is displayed. Sometimes WMP simply won't open. The same thing happens when I try other mpegs. I tried doing what was suggested on avisynth.org where it was suggested that warpsharp.dll might be causing the problem and to move it from the plugin directory and load it manually. But still the problem persists. I am new to this whole thing and I am reading and trying to figure this out on my own but I really need some input. I'd appreciate any help or suggestions anyone might have.

This is a complete shot in the dark, but I'm guessing ffdshow is causing a conflict. Can you play back the Kevin Caldwell - Battle Athletes - Believe.mpg video correctly in WMP directly, without AviSynth? If it does (and even if it doesn't), check your Windows System Tray (lower right corner, next to the clock). There is probably at least one "FF" icon there, assuming you did the default AMVapp install.

Now, try disabling ffdshow's support for MPEG1 videos (which Believe.mpg is), and everything else that you DON'T want ffdshow to handle. I suggest disabling support for MPEG1, MPEG2 (unless you don't have any DVD playback software already installed), DivX, XviD, and pretty much everything else except things that you don't already have another decoder for, like H.264. You can do this in ffdshow's Video decoder configuration located in your Start menu. You probably also want to do the same for ffdshow's VFW codec configuration and Audio decoder configuration (for stuff like MP3, AAC, etc.).
