Some Weird Windows Movie Maker Problem

Postby Darknemo2000 » Wed Jul 05, 2006 7:52 am

Hello, probably you are getting tired of stupid noobs asking questions like that 10 000 times a day - but still...

Heres the problem - when I import any video or music file into WMM, it doesnt start to play. ANY audio or video filejust doesnt start play. Weird thing is taht I can still use WMM to combine two clips in the timeline and save them, yet cannot view or split them at all.

I tried reinstalling WMM but that doesnt help much as this prolem still keeps on coming back at me.

I looked here in forums for similar problems, however thsoe were usually on some speific video or audio files, while mine problem is that it doesnt play any file in general. Ifyou have answered this question before - I am sorry for my dumbness for not seeing it.

However, help with this problem would be greatlly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

O.O oh my God!

hey boy, when you have a problem please be more precise!

What File format are you using? AVI?
If they are AVi files, what type of video stream do they contain?

Please give more information possible. Always.

Just looking at the video problem.

Is this a recent problem? Did it used to work for all these file types or has it never worked? If never, then you probably don't have any of the basic decoders installed. Do these file types work in other video programs like windows media player, vlc player, media player classic, etc? Have you installed ffdshow? If so, have you tried uninstalling it and reinstalling a newer version?

What version of wmm are you using? 1.0, 2.0 or the newer 2.1 (I think)?

If these files used to work in wmm but aren't working now, have you installed or changed anything recently? Have you tried reinstalling the amvapp package? Have you installed any strange codec packages or filters?

If you're using any avi, what formats are they? All compressed xvid/divx formats, or have you tried an uncompressed avi format like huffyuv?

/

It sounds like it's wmm. If you can play these files fine in other programs, and if you have installed the most recent amvapp package, then it's wmm. Did the version you have now come with the computer? Have you tried upgrading? Would you rather try using a different version of wmm, or getting an entirely different editing program? Download a trial of Premiere or Vegas (or any of the programs listed in the sticky thread in this section of the forum) and see if the clips are visible in it. If they are, you're probably better off just not using wmm at all.

Cloyace: as I said its not AVI format only...ANY format that I try to play doesnt play, however it playes on Windows Media player. Audio files doesnt play on WMM as well..

TNow more specifics: This WMM is 2.0 and it was installed with my Windows XP, yet it never played any files.. I tried updating and reinstalling it but it didnt work at all.

All files work with WindowsMedia player and other players but it doenst work with WMM. There is no error when I try to play files - simply the button "Play" cannot be pressed as if there were no files importe, yet, they are.

All compressed xvid fornats are in my case. And I havent tried huffyuv

Howver I dont think I have most recent amvap pavkage installed and Im not so sure of ffdshow, but probably no too. How can I install them?

Files are visable in a sense that I can see the file important its just that the file cannot be played as if it never was imported...

Greyed out "Play" button? Unable to use the "Preview" window? I've seen this problem since I've dealt with it. Supposedly there are certain .dll files that needs to be reregistered. I don't know why it does that though.

Bottom line is first close out of Windows Movie Maker. Then download this batch file. Once you get that, run it by double-clicking it. Then try importing clips again in WMM. That should do the trick.

Thank you angelx03 - it really helped me. Now I can prewiev the clips. However the new error occoured - I cannot add files into the timeline now, as the error message jumps out, telling that WMM needs to close.

"AppName: moviemk.exe AppVer: 2.0.3312.0 ModName: ffdsfow.ax
ModVer: 1.0.01 Offset: 0003c59f"

Thats basically what error message says...Any ideas how to fix it too?

Please call me Cloyce "^^

mm.. most probaly is not a problem concerning installed software or
codec package.

but it's a problem concerning System Configuration, Registry Key entries
or something like that.

I can't help you, sorry.

Wait ^^, Maybe I can try.
Probaly it won't solve your ptoblem, but just have a try.
Go to : Control Panel > Sounds anf Audio periferics > Hardware >
Property > Property

And Remove all codecs!

Then Reinstall them all

Probably it will resolve some codec conflitcs (I said probably ^^)

Last Try.

In MovieMaker
GO TO: Tools > Option > Compatibility

If it doesn't work yet, I suggest you to change the editing software.

No, no, no, no. I know your problem, it's real simple.

FFDShow equals very no.

Hopefully you're using FFDShow like... from CCCP... because it's awesome.

But that aside, WMM can't use FFDshow effectively. It just doesn't work. WMM wants VideoforWindows codecs as decoders to work effectively. So, how do you solve the problem?

Install the latest XviD binary. Select "Decode all FourCCs."

Do not worry--this will not interfere with CCCP/FFDShow. It's just for VirtualDub and Windows Movie Maker (and any other programs which use VfW decoding).

Install this and call me in the morning: http://koepi.org/XviD-1.1.0-30122005.exe
