VDub to save image sequences, Photoshop and ImageReady for assembly.

Also, if you can't find the Help forum, you aren't looking hard enough

Or another program you can use to put all the pics together is "Macromedia Fireworks MX".

Here's a list of free graphics programs: http://www.freebyte.com/graphicprograms/

There is even one from Microsoft!: Microsoft GIF Animator It's pretty basic, but in conjunction with any image editor, you can make animated GIFs with it.

From the Help File wrote:Welcome to the Microsoft GIF Animator. With this tool you can use any .GIF file, or any image you can copy to the Clipboard as part of an animation. You can create or modify an animation then save it for use in your web browser or other applications. You can add as many images to an animation as your computer memory allows.
The GIF Animator contains a toolbar, an animation (frames) display column, a scroll bar, and three tabs; the Options tab when you open GIF Animator, and also the Animation, and Image tabs once you open a file.

· The Options tab controls the way GIF Animator manages your files.
· The Animation tab controls characteristics of your animation.
· The Image tab controls characteristics of individual frames in your animation.

You can add images to the animation display column by using drag and drop, by pasting an image from the Clipboard into a frame, or by opening an existing .GIF file from within GIF Animator. Set the Import Color Palette options in the Options tab before you add images to your animation. Use the scrollbar to view all the images in the current animation. Images are inserted before the current selected frame.

Note

The GIF Animator is supported by Microsoft Support Services through support for purchasers of Microsoft Image Composer.

The display and other functionality of GIF Animator files is dependent on the functionality of the browser you use to view the files. Large files increase download times and might also display interrupted sequencing on computers with low memory.

It will also import limited types of AVI files, although all the ones I've tried have thown up an error message, except a very short Uncompressed RGB AVI file and one HUGE Huffyuv AVI that I didn't let it finish importing.

Image

I created the above image with VirtualDubMod and AviSynth to resize and crop the image, saved the 9 frames as an Uncompressed RGB AVI. Then imported it into MS GIF Animator. On the Options tab, I selected Optimal Palette under Import Color Palette. On the Animation tab, check Looping and Repeat Forever. Then Ctrl+L or click the Select All button to highlight all the frames and then click on the Image tab to change the Duration (1/100 s) of all the images to 7. Everything else I left as the default. Then Save (Ctrl+S) or Save As (Ctrl+A), and you are done.

It's shareware/trial.

yuri64: At the risk of sounding condescending (i.e. in case you didn't know), when you see blue (?) text like that, it's a link that you can click on, in this case to go to the software's Web page.

Willen: Ulead is a real company so they don't do shareware. There is a 30-day trial version or $50 to buy a copy/key.

Download.com also has GIF animation programs listed: http://www.download.com/3120-20_4-0.html?tg=dl-20&qt=gif&tag=srch

Correction: that's a 15-day trial on the Ulead program.

Fixed.

Yeah, I know about Ulead. But just because companies have shareware available doesn't mean they aren't real. I called it shareware/trial because some download sites don't specify or differentiate between shareware and trial-ware. *shakes fist at Tucows. :|

At first I had "real" in quotes since I meant it sarcastically. And it's $29.95 for the upgrade only. The full version will cost you the $49.95. Which would've fooled me, too, except that I've ordered from Ulead Online before.

Anyway, it's a decent program, but I think I'd go for one of the freeware programs first. The only reason I have it is because it was a freebie with something else I bought.

Ah, the tricky bastards.

At least you got a full version of a full featured GIF editor for no extra charge. I kinda wish Paint Shop Pro X still came with Animation Shop like with version 7 (AS is also $50 stand-alone). I need to install Animation Shop on my main computer if I can find the CD, but in the meantime I'll have to use my secondary comp or use this MS GIF program. :(

i`ve found a wonderful tool which allows you to convert video file to animation GIF formats.. You can create avatars, animated logos for your website. What`s more, you may choose width, height and FPS of GIF animation. VidGIF has very simple and friendly-using interface :D You may find it at geovid.com
