Postby newbornankh » Wed Jun 28, 2006 3:11 am

yes, umm

well, this program won't let me edit some of my .AVI files on my pc.
it works fine with the DivX ones, but when it comes to Xvid video it just won't play/edit it.

is there a way I can fix this?

Um yea.... just encode them to .AVI files using the Huffyuv or Lagarith codecs, since they are loseless. Adobe Premiere isn't meant to handle .AVI files encoded into DivX or Xvid, which is why you're having problems with it.

I can't really suggest any, since the only one I've used is Premiere, but I do know that both Windows Movie Maker and Premiere don't handle DivX and Xvid .AVI files that well. I'm pretty sure most of the other video editing programs out there are the same in that case, but let's see what someone else has to say first. Unless you're really low on disk space or something, it's really not that big of a deal to encode them using the loseless codecs so you don't lose quality and you can edit with them.

You should not use any DivX/XviD footage in ANY editing software.
