Marionette! ILM uses it...

Postby OhMyBelldandy009 » Sat Nov 30, 2002 9:47 pm

Hello? Hello?Hello?

This thread better be answered, or I'll be listening to echoes all day. I was doing a report on the special effects used in the movie, Forrest Gump. In many scenes, involved CGI, like the ping pong ball and feather. In order to add realistic bouncing and fluttering movements as well as lighting and shadows to the ball and feather where created by Industrial Light and Majic (George Lucas's effects company).

In an interview with some workers at ILM, they mentioned that they were using a program entitled "Marrionette." I searched on KaZaA, and no one has it. I'm not surprised, as it is most likely an incredibly expensive program (used by professionals).

I would really love to get my hands on this program, because I am interested in computer generated imagery. I think I could make some great music videos with different types of software. If anyone knows if this program is available for the public, please, post here!

Okay well that was back then.

Alot of neat things can be done with programs like Lightwave or 3DSMax.

Check out www.studioartfx.com, this guy does 2D cel style animatio using 3D software ^_^ Teh cel shading is l33t.

There is a freeware modeling program called Anim8tor, which looks to be pretty cool. http://www.anim8or.com/

Marionette is a piece of software developed by Pixar for Pixar, and yes, they still use it.

Sorry, but contrary to popular belief, not everything is on KaZaA.

You probably wouldn't be able to use it anyway, even if it was leaked.

Yes yes there, you probably cannot get ahold of that program since it's a in-house only program that they spent alot of money developing. You would be better off going with some cheaper programs.

Things that you suggested such as emulating physics of a ball or feather are now available in quite a few "professional packages" like Lightwave or 3DS max. Heck, anim8tor even allows for boning.

By the way, those are expensive. And hard to crack/find. If you get your hands on one, let me know! I also have the c-dilla crack...

Especially a movie like Shrek, god that looked disgusting. I can't believe DreamWorks made such a ugly movie on a bunch of linux boxes, my god

It's all in the implementation, doesn't matter what OS you use.

I was going to write something here, but I think klinky said it better than I ever could. Thanks. :)
