Appearing/Scrolling Titles in Premiere 6.5

Postby Bushido Philosopher » Sat Nov 30, 2002 12:41 am

They make it WAY to complicated for its own good....i liked 6.0 titles better.

Anyway, for anyone who knows how, I want to do something like how Kingdom Hearts does in its opening movie (ok i know that's a pretty bad description but its the only reference i can think of now). I want the text to appear bit by bit.

So how would I go about doing that?

They don't scroll, they appear letter by letter, at least that's what I think you're getting at.

Easy to do in After Effects - use Path Text. As for how to do it in Premiere? Beats me. Best thing I can think of is to have your text there, and then have something on top of it scrolling sideways that reveals it.

How about just making a set of titles with letters appearing in order:

title1 = N
title2 = Ne
title3 = Nex
title4 = Next
etc.

Then just place the title files on an upper track in order with the correct duration and starting point. It's crude, but it should work. Plus, you get added control of exactly when the letters appear if you should want to time them against a beat or lyrics or whatever.

Hmmm...dancing letters...sounds like something OmniStrata would do. :)

I'd tend to agree with Ermac- this is the kind of thing AfterEffects is designed for. Titling in Premiere is generally not a fun thing to do, especially after you get used to how much control you have over them in AE. But, assuming you don't have access to AE, the idea of having a sequence of title images each adding a letter would also likely work- you'd just have to be careful that your justification was set as such that the letters from the previous 'slide' didn't get repositioned by the additional letters.

Wow, you went out and bought it--and there was no instruction manual?! :twisted:

You'd probably be best off heading out ot the bookstore and getting one of any number of tips-n-tricks books available for such programs.

I'm gettin' one for Christmas.
