have you tried eo-video?
and for the future, try to avoid using fansub footage like the plauge (besides being against the site rules...the quality is sub-par 99% of the time)

I've come across a few fansubs (direct download) using .rmvb
...can you think of any other reason why some video would be encoded like that?
it's just whenever I see file extensions like .rm, .avi (using divx or xvid), .rmvb, .mkv, etc... I tend to think downloaded footage

Wrong. They're infinitely sub-par 215% of the times.

AnimeNSK is a pretty big Brazillian fansub that uses .rmvb format. ProjectGroup (NarutoProject, AlchemistProject and BleachProject) is another (also Brazillian). But I think they ARE Satan because not only do they use realmedia, they also have big 128x64pix logos on top of everything.

e-o video doesn't read many formats, I don't think it can handle realmedia (then again, i'll never know because I refuse to download any realmedia file to test it)
And God spoke unto the Chicken, and He said: "Thou shalt crosseth the road", and the Chicken did cross the road, and there was much rejoicing.

I downloaded a video I love that's unfortunately in .rmbv format, so I used it. The new avi works fine, but now there's this nag in the middle of the screen. It stays up the whole time.

Am I supposed to just walk up to someone and say 'Hello. My name's Kirika. I kill people in my spare time'?
