MPEG and Windows Media Player 7.01 problems

Postby jasper-isis » Mon Nov 25, 2002 6:09 pm

Since about a month ago, my Windows Media Player has been acting up whenever I play an MPEG file [from hard drive and from VCD]. The videos play fine if I just let them run, but if I move the slider on the progress bar then they will speed up to unnatural speeds. Pausing and unpausing doesn't cause any probems, however.

I have no idea what could be causing this problem. I even upgraded WMP a few days ago and the problem still exists. I do recall installing and uninstalling some codecs about a month ago. Does anything think that could be the problem? Help would be very much appreciated.

There isn't any problem, its suppose to speed up. The video is trying to catch up with where its really suppose to be, and eventually it will play normally after it has caught up, although this really isn't much of a problem on extremely fast computers.

errrgh...

but i meant speed up as in like, going really REALLY fast and all out of synch. and it doesn't slow down when it gets back to where it was before. heck, it doesn't even slow down when i fast-forward in on the slider...

Try uninstalling any Direct Show filters you have installed, maybe even go so far as removing any codecs like DivX. Then re-install DirectX. See if that helps at all.

If that still fails to fix the problem. Try upgrading to a later version, re-installing your current. Or trying out Media Player Classic off of doom9.org

I meant, your media player, when I suggested upgrading to a later version or re-installing your current.

either that or you could use a little of your money to buy more RAM.
