Compositing With Photoshop and Premiere

Postby rhkaloge » Sat Nov 23, 2002 12:02 am

I suspect there is a guide to this, but I couldn't find it, so I will ask the fine people here...

I want to take a title I made in Photoshop and place it in Premiere. The Photoshop file has a transparent background layer, but when I open it in Premiere, the transparancy is gone (BG is white). Now, I can make the BG transparent in Premiere, but I also want to apply an effect. In order to do THIS, I need to place it in Video 1A rather than Video 2, and as far as I know, you cannot apply transparancy to anything in any track other than Video 2 (maybe the numbers are not preset - Video 2=top track and Video 1a is the next one down, then transitions, then Video 1b). Any idea how I can import a title with a transparent backgroud from Photoshop into Premiere?

If you skiped over that long stuff, here is the short version - I wanna do stuff like in Tainted Donughts tell me how :)

Thanks!

Transperancy is known as Alpha.

There is no Alpha support on Track1A/B. You must place your PSD file on track 2, goto transperancy settings and then select Key Type: Alpha.

Last time I checked you could do effects on Track1A/B.

I'm such a noob - 5 min of playing in Premiere solved my problem.

For anyone with a similar sounding problem, my solution was to use motion controls on the clip rather than effects. Real easy.

Um, thanks anyway I guess

Just updating this here...

Most likely the reason it worked is because when you go into motion settings it automatically sets up transperancy to use either Alpha or a White matte :O
