Why do videos I dload lag?

Postby Wildfire2k2 » Thu Nov 21, 2002 11:08 pm

For some reason many of the videos I download are times all wrong. The sound and video are off and it just isn't right. I have the DivX codec (nto sure which version), as well as Windows Media Player V7.1. Im running off a P3 750MHZ 128MB ram Geforce 256 with 2 gigs space left machine. Whats the problem???

(Note, for some reason Music vids dont lag, only InuYasha episodes. I'm currently at episode 80. Is it the subbing company or me?)

How fast is your processer? I have problems with some videos but once I upgraded the processer they worked fine. Also mysteriusly some will work again if you aclose and reopen them, God knows why all I know is that it happens a lot for me.

Also try using something besides media player 7. Maybe try media player classic. http://vobsub.edensrising.com/mpc.php

Use Zoom Player!

Also, try adjusting the quality setting sin the DivX decoder options.

I dont think there's anything wrong with the hardware. I think this is codecs clashing. Which codecs did you install and where did you get them ? If you installed somthing like Nemo Codecs or Ace mega codecs pack then you might as well re-install windows (after deleting it of course) Those packs are handy but for AMV creators it is a nightmare.

Be very selective when installing codes and write them down so that you dont install dhe same codec twice. I thing you might have a few m-peg layer 3 decoders installed and windows is trying to figure out which on to use. In the struggle you get sound that lag.

You say music videos dont lag ? I'm guessing that the episodes are AVI files and the music videos are mpegs.

You could try to uninstall all your codecs and codec related programs and then re-install them IN THE RIGHT ORDER. Install the older codecs first. Like first DivX 3 Alpha then DivX 5.02. If you install Winamp3 you should also not have a problem with any sound file out there.

Hope this help.

Eheheh... sometimes I wonder where in the world people pick up information like this
Having multiple mp3 codecs will not cause your sound to lag. Under this assumption, windows would have to be saying "well wtf, i dont think im using the right mp3 codec, lets try is other one", back and forth, the entire time the video is playing. It just doesnt work that way. The codecs are decided upon when the video is opened.

Anyways, the only codecs you should need are Divx3.11 alpha, Divx5.02. You should also pick up the ffdshow decoder. Using an alternate video player as I stated before would most likely solve your problem. If the episodes you are trying to view are in divx5, perhaps use the divx player that comes included with divx5, its very fast at decoding divx5 content. Also make sure you set the postprocessing options for your playback filter to the lowest setting.
