I've had it with Premiere

Postby Zarxrax » Fri Nov 08, 2002 8:32 pm

Ok, I am more than a little fed up with Adobe Premiere 6.5 now. I simply can't get anything done with it crashing every 5 minutes. Just get this: it will let me edit a divx 5 episode, however if i convert that file to huffyuv and try to use that instead, it crashes the moment i lay it on the timeline. I am ready to upgrade to version 4.x or whatever. Or should I try to get version 5 instead? What are the differences between them?
My main concern with downgrading is that my project files may no longer work. Does anyone know if they will still be ok?

Are you trying to convert a DivX file to huffyuv?

I thought only plain AVIs could be converted in that manner.

Read ErMaC & AbsoluteDestiny's Friendly AMV Guides :p

AVI = Container
Codec = "describer"

DivX = codec.

There is no such thing as a "plain AVI", they're one codec or another. AVI defines how data is stored, and a codec defines what that data is.

I think you have a computer problem over a Premiere problem as huffYUV works fine for me in 6.5 :p

Maybe try the amvapp pack versions of teh stuffs?

I have the amv pack. Huffyuv usually will import into the timeline, just this one wont for some reason. Either way, it crashes all the time during regualr editing. 6.0 crashed about 10x less often, though even it crashed more than just about anything else on my computer. I hear the older versions are stable, so if my projects will work on them, I'm ready to go.

6.0 introduced radically different ways of doing keyframing and stuff :p

So you can't import a 6 project into anything less then 6 :p

actually divx 5 does add the option to generate a .divx mpeg 4 file, although I'm not sure if this is actually mp4 container based or not, because divx 3 came with a 'divx validator' that simply renamed all avis encoded with divx to filename.divx, but they were the same old avi.

Darn... well I guess I'll just go back to Premiere 6.0 then... its better than this POS at least. Are there any other editing programs for windows that are better than premiere for basic editing?

Someone mentioned VidEdit, which to me looks like a Win3.1 app. It probably even has 2GB export limits. Hmmm. Other then that :\ You got your vegas video, your pinnacle studios, ulead crap... None of them as l33t as Premiere. Sad thing is Premiere ain't that l33t to begin with.

There isn't a whole lot of movement in pure editing because Adobe is perceived as having the lead, especially for people who aren't in the industry. Final Cut Pro stole its thunder a long time ago, but people who balked at Premiere's cost won't even look at it. Sad, because I've never met a professional editor who mentioned Premiere without a laugh in the same sentence.

I've had this problem before.

I dont know if the situation is the same for you but my problem was that my windows installation was more than 2 months old and I had installed a lot of codec's in that time.

What happens if you have multiple codecs windows cant decide which on to use and the program tht works with it crashes.

I have a full proof solution. It always works and never fails to please.

FORMAT

DESTROY EVERY THING

CLEAN SLATE

BWU HA HAHAHAHHAHAAAAAAA !!!!!!!!! :twisted: :twisted: :twisted:

Nothing like a clean windows to make everything nice and fast. Also this way you'll know that you'll only use the stuff you need.

I format at least once a month.

Why you ask.

:P Because I can. :P
Be sure that you either format your drive that windows is on or be sure to deltree windows AND program files. Make a clean installation. DO NOT reinstall windows as your problems will persist.

I say you should stick with 6.5. If you REALLY want to change don't drop lower than 6.0

Hopes it helps. :)

Cheers vir eers
