Setting viewer ?

Postby gypsy » Fri Nov 08, 2002 4:34 am

Hi all.

I wonder if there is a program that will analize a mpg or avi file and tell you the exact stats. Like current fps, resolution, size, bitrate, codec used, ect, ect, ect.

I know you can bring it into premiere and Properties on it but if premiere doesn't support 24.976 fps it will probably tell you that it's in 24.98, woun't it. Also I know that Win2k and XP gives you some information but this isn't all the infor that is required and isn't always accurate.

I am also wondering if there is a way to find out if I'm trying to view an anime and it tells me I dont have the right codec where I can find this out without installing every codec I find untill I see it works. (Too many codecs causes ALOT of problems in premiere. :?

Thanx for all the help.

Cheers vir eers

You can get a lot of that information in Virtual Dub VDub is the great friend and companion of every happy amv maker!

Download it, and load your file in question, and use the properties function.

Life is good. :)

It should say something like "unknown format" or something, if you don't have the right codec installed.

Let's see: what does one need to decode most everything out there today?

Divx 5
Divx 3.11alpha (for the Divx audio codec)
XviD (usually, the most recent stable build will work for everything)
MSmpeg 4v2&4v3 (installed automatically by WMP 7 or higher. (note I didn't say better. A standalone codec installer is also available.

Quicktime? maybe. You be the judge, if you want to install it.
