MJPEG -> Avisynth Editing Problems

Postby Atarashii Hito » Wed Nov 06, 2002 1:19 am

I have just finished Editing my video using the lower quality mjpeg.avi file I made of my DVD and I just tried the replacement method. The only problem is, some of the clips on my timeline are not the ones I had laid down using my MJPEG file. It seems to me somehow the times has been shifted on the Avisynth (I don't know if this will make sense to anyone) So now the video is in a very weird way unsyncronized. I was just wondering if anyone has run into this problem before and how I might go about to fix this.

Did you IVTC the mjpeg files? Did you ivtc the vob files? Are they both the same framerate?

As said in the guide, if you use exactly the same avisynth files as theones you made your mjpeg files then they should be identical.

The guide also says you should try the method before editing.

Make sure nothing has changed in your avisynth file since making the mjpegs.

Nothing has changed in the Avisynth file from the time I made the MJPEG file. And I shouldn't have to IVTC anything because the DVD is Progressive Film. I also tested this method before hand, but I only tested exchanging the full MJPEG.avi file with the .avs file in their entirity. But I guess I should have tested with a bunch of little clips instead :cry: But hopefully with your guy's input I can figure out a solution.

I'm wondering if there's a problem with the settings you used for your previews, and Premiere is trying to assemble clips from your existing preview files or something.

Here's what I'd try: either "kidnap" all your preview files to some subfolder where premiere can't find them, or save an extra copy of your project file without copying the previews, check all your settings carefully, and rerender the whole timeline completely fresh, no old preview files.

Just a chance it might work, but worth a try, IMO.

Now I know it is not a problem with the preview files because there are none, because when I did the mjpeg -> .avs switch I created a back up file and when it asked to save the preview files I said no (I already have the preview files with my other project).

Well I'm no expert on how Premiere handles preview files, but it sounds like that option just links the new project file to the old preview files. Try moving them to another folder and see what happens. If it is geniunely using preview files it will complain when you open up the project.

I tried your guys' suggestion and the problem still was there. It seems to me the problem is with in the .avs file, everything else seems to be ok... But somehow the .avs file seems to have a quicker frame rate than the mjpeg file, but they each have the same framerate. Oh wait... n/m I figured the problem out on my own. The .avs file has (Assume FPS=24) line on it and the .avi file is pure Progressive. So now my question is, should I just take the (Assume FPS=24) line out of my .avs file? ^_^; This has become way more complex. Wow I feel stupid now :oops: ...

Ergh, uhh well if you made the mjpeg with the avs file, then they should be the same. I would try it for shits and giggles to remove the assume line. I doubt it would fix it, unless you fouled up along the way and didn't follow direction :p

Well Shits and Giggles is correct... Oh well, I guess it would be a first time learning expirience if you don't F' something up :) But at least now I won't make this mistake again.

When you make a duplicate of the Project file from within Premiere by using the "Save as..." command, it will ask you if you want to save the preview files with the new project also. I usually pick no.
