Need help fixing the black screen of death

Postby Wildfire2k2 » Tue Nov 05, 2002 6:14 pm

Every time I try to import this certain clip to my bin my computer goes black and will not close. I am forced to restart my computer the hard way. I'm using the newest premier. I have windows 98SE with a 750mhz P3. 3 Gigs of HD left. The file is about 600MB and it is a Trigun episode that had been converted from DivX to Indeo 5.(something). I already have a sound clip in the bin, so I know it's not importing in general. PLEASE HELP

Have you tried converting the file into some other forat? Studio DV locks up when I try and use formats other than AVI so I just convert them and it works fine.

Mmmmm. Indeo. Outch.

From some personal experience and what I've heard converting a DivX video to Indeo will lose some quality in you final production and I think Indeo has a problem that the resolution needs to be devided by 4 or something.

I'm far from being a expert so anybody can correct me If i'm wrong. Maby that is your problem. What resolution did you export to??

Try converting it to Huffyuv in Yuf mode (will take up less space) and import it then. This might work. Dunno.

Also check out the new guides my Ermac and Absolute Destiny under the guides section. This is a fountain of knowledge and helped me alot in the past. (Although it is confusing at first

Just trying to help

Cheers vir eers.

Wait a sec? The Entire Screen goes black and your computer locks up?

Does it only do it with this one clip or other clips?

I would go ahead and try a different codec, if that fails, re-install Premiere, if that fails get some new audio/video/motherboard drivers, if that fails, re-install Windows.

thx everyone. I re-converted the clip and it works fine now, as do the other episodes. It was just a bad conversion. On a side note, however, I don't seem to have the huffyuv codec. where can I get it?
