Tmpge Audio problems

Postby Jebadia » Thu Oct 24, 2002 3:48 pm

the souce audio isn't the best, but when I encode it to mpeg1 with Tmpge, the audio litterally becomes awful, it seems to make squeeky feedback where ever there is alot of bass. I've even set the settings up to higher bitrates like 320 and 384, and tried Stereo, Join Stereo, and Mono (I was bored so i tried Mono for the hell of it) and the problem still occures. Any reason why I'm loosing audio quality when encoding to mpeg1.

btw, the source file is an uncompressed, 16bit wav file ripped from an mov file. So the origional bitrate, from what it sounds like may be 160 or 128 kbps.

Are you encoding Mpeg1 layer 1 or mpeg 1 layer 2?

You should be using the latter.

As for why you are losing quality... well.. uhhhh... mpeg compression is lossy.
