Are you using either DivX or MP3 source? If so, that's why Premiere is crashing.

Ya I had the exact same problem I even tried re-installign Adobe umptean times.
What I found that works best is just getting rid of XP. it has to many glitches I went back to 98 and Premiere works fabulous! I can even have it open with AOL and Photoshop and it runs smoothly.
I NEVER used to be able to do anything BUT editing and even then it would boink.

So I'd get rid of XP.

And just out of curioosity. Did you BUY premiere or did you download it.
Because my friend downloaded his and his wouldn't work at all with XP. He went back to ME and it still works terribly.

(Thank god for good friends and two copies of Adobe)

i have xp, too and it works much better than with 98. when it crashes, only premiere crashes and not the whole pc. editing is no problem. IMO it couldn't be xp...

Next, i cant get rid of xp cuz this isnt my computer, my comp is older than me and somehow i lost the audio drive....and i use divx codec but im currently fixing that.

Not sure that this would be Xp's fault... I can use Photoshop, Premiere, Illustrator and some other minor stuff like Winamp and ICQ at the same time without crashing. And I'm petty sure I don't have the best PC in this world (only upgraded it to 1 Ghz recently, and those stats were done before  ) , nor the most RAM (384 only).

I'd rather look...
- Either at your footage (fotr instance, there's no way I can open DivX sources in my premiere without having them through Virtual Dub first)

- Or at some mnor crap like programs that install spywares that install other crap and so on, it makes any system become highly instable in thelong run

- Or, another thing I can see... You're using XP's Family version, not the Professional one :P

Premiere does have a tendency to crash, even on win2k. I remember it crashing on both my friend and my computers. I think it's somehow related to how stable in general your system is. I found that if my system starts getting a little warm, premiere starts acting up. And also, premiere is a gigantic memory hog. Once it used up ~512MB of physical memory and 1.5GB of virtual memory.

You can always download the audio drivers from the manufacturer's website, so if you install a different version of Windows you won't be without sound.

Well if you downloaded it you could be screwed, because downloaded Adobe doesn't work all to wel with XP.

(Has anyone noticed that when you type XP it looks like some guy sticking his tongue out at you. DAMN YOU BILL GATES!!!)
