If you're editing from AVI files which are DivX then you're running into keyframeing issues which is why stuff is being weird,

my brain digested what I read last night. glad to know it's just my source video and not my computer. I have it on DVD... I should probably buy a video capture card and capture my own video from now on to avoid this (pretty sure I read huffyuv can be used to capture, I'll have to re-read that part)

as I was going to bed it hit me that key frames made sense to what I was seeing. So basicly the source video I have was made as a finished product and made to save space. It's all forming together now...

also on virtural dub. I found it as a plug in, is this what I want or should I keep looking for a stand alone program? trying the plug in as I type this.

VirtualDub is a standalone program.

You can download it at www.virtualdub.com
