system requirements for adobe premiere.

Postby CaTaClYsM » Thu Sep 12, 2002 2:54 pm

I got adobe premiere, problem is it cost over 500 bucks. The comp I have right now is an old celeron with 65 megs of ram and a 4 meg graphics card.

A. what type of system would I need to run this program at a reasonable speed,

and B. If I can't aford the system, do you have any tips for running premiere on a slower system.

1. You cna't have 65MB of RAM installed. It's just not possible. ^_^

2. RTFB*

can't, see here's the deal, I didn't actually buy it, I told my dad to go pick it up for me, and then he said here you go, and don't expect any allowance for the next few years. And long story short I used the box to burn adobe in effigy.

It should work. I've got an AMD K6-2 450MHz, Win XP Pro and 256MB of PC-133 SDRAM (That's right, you heard me, PC-133 SDRAM) and it works fine for me. Of course, I also have 160GB of HD space (37.2GB/40GB Main HD and 111GB/120GB Storage HD)

If it's an old enough computer it probably takes 72-pin simms. I believe they used to make SIMMS of that variety in half meg sizes so he could theoretically have two half meg chips and 2 32 meg chips. It is rather unikely though. Probably just a typo, but I guess that's excusable seeing as you transposed the 'a' and 'n' in can't.

Anyway, Premiere used to run fine on my 550MHz Athlon with 512MB of RAM. It runs like garbage with only 128 in XP on my 1GHZ Athlon. It will start out all right, but after a while it slows down to a crawl. My laptop with 256MB of RAM seems to handle it all right, but the hard drive is a little slow (5400 RPM). Processor speed isn't as important as your drives and your RAM. If you're going to spend money that's the place to put it.

Show me a place that ever, ever sold 512KB 72-pin SIMMs, and I'll acknowledge it as a possibility. :)

(Remember, SIMMs needed to be installed in pairs, so to get 65MB one would need to install 2x32MB and 2x512KB modules.)

Well we used to have 512KB 30-pin SIMMs at work (it's primarily a Mac oufit). I'll have to ask around about the 72-pin SIMMs though. By the time I had a computer that was good enough to take SIMMs, 4MB SIMMs were readily available. I'll have to ask my father, he's been working in the business far longer than I.

I already acknoledged this fact in my post. This is only true on Pentium class systems, but since the Celeron is a pentium class CPU that's all that matters.
