ok after about 3 months of combing the forums ive finaly got a question worth if posteing (i think)

i have a rather large collection of anime that is mainly divx encoded and am planning on useing them as source material for my first amv's herelies my problem: premier6.0 and divx= crash every 2 mins or so, ive tried a few converters to change the encodeing of the source before opening with premier but seem to get a very large loss of quality.

im not looking for a step by step, more of a reccomendation on a decent all around program to decompress the vids for editing, preferrably with a lossless codec or completely uncompressed

and yes im a newb to AMV's so flame me, ridicule me, do whatever you want just dont judge me till youve seen my work!!

Zooom... You're up late also or in another country..

You'll want <a href="http://www.virtualdub.com">VirtualDub</a>

&

<a href="http://www.divx-digest.com/software/huffyuv.html">HuffYUV</a>.

HuffYUV is automatically installed in the AMV app bundle that is listed at the top of the forum. That is probably the easiest way to go about it.

Also DivX is bad as source. 1)It's Lossy 2)COMMERICIAL RELEASES DO NOT GET PUT OUT IN DIVX(in other words your pirating the anime).

You wouldn't want subs for AMV source anyways. There are FMP Raws out there.

And FMP is licensed, the DVDs will supposedly be coming out from ADV before the end of the year. If you were talking about some show which wasn't licensed, or even one that was but had no release date planned, I might be more sympathetic, but FMP was licensed several months ago and ADV has it on their super-fast-track which means it should be out soon. It's going to be a money maker, or at least that's what they're betting on, so I expect them to deliver.

Yes, and in case you hadn't notice their anime output on DVD has increased by leaps and bounds in the past year. They're currently churning out TONS of stuff. Hell, they even got Golden Boy out on DVD, finally. They're planning even their older funky titles like Dragon Pink and stuff. And Excel Saga is indeed finally being released.

Have some faith in ADV. They never set a release date with Excel. They've set a release date with this one, and trust me it's in their best interested to get FMP out as fast as possible.

I'll give them credit for doing a good job on most of their releases, and its nice that ADV is so enthusiastic, (there actually seem to be some fans among the high-ups, unlike Bandai) but they still seem to bite off more than they can chew.

Let's see: Neoranga, Mahou Senshi Riui, Noir, all MIA, and they had Excel Saga for HOW LONG before we saw the first disc?

I'll remain skeptical, and hang on to my crappy shadowsubs till I actually see the disc on a shelf.

It could be worse, Synch-Point could be announcing new aquisitions.

It could be interesting to debate the ethics of providing an AMV creator with soundless raws just for the purpose of AMV creation.

Maybe I'll start a thread later

I don't see why you diss Bandai like that. Their head of PR Jerry Chu - whom I know personally - is the biggest Otaku I know. He's the guy who owned the HachiRoku from Initial D that was on display at AX (even though it was at TokyoPop's booth).

Come on now ErMaC, you can't really like ADV can you? So they never set a release date for Excel Saga? Who cares whether they set one or not, the fact of the matter is, it takes them longer to release the anime than it takes it to be produced in Japan! FMP will be out this year? I'll believe it when I see it. And with all the time they spend on that crap, you would think that they could actually do a decent job on it wouldn't you? After I got the Eva DVD box set, the only thing I could think of was "I actually paid for this CRAP?!" I honestly don't see how they can mess things up so badly, not to mention numorous issues I've heard about some of their other releases, like Nadesico. It's truely sad that I feel I can sub a series better than ADV, considering that they actually earn a living doing it.

while i agree ADV has done some crappy subwork, its still worth buying, i know i plan on getting the dvd's simply to support US licensing, do you realize that less than 30 percent off all anime is distributed here? i mean, yea i like the fansubs but you gotta support the companys as well, if for no other reason than keeping them in buisness and releaseing more titles

anywho, 6 am here time to practice with VDUB a bit then the often eluseive sleep>< if i can keep premier from crashing for another month or so i hope to be finished with my first amv, wish me luck =)

The ADV Eva DVDs are fine, aside from the non-remastered volume 1. If your complaint has to do with the subtitling job, well I can somewhat sympathize as I don't always like the way they sub things but it's not as bad as a lot of fansubbers nowadays.
If your complaint is about the video quality - don't complain to ADV, because it's not their fault. The original Eva masters are very bad, and there's nothing ADV could've done short from doing DFR on every single episode to clean them up, and that still wouldn't've fixed the telecining issues. GAiNAX is notorious for bad filming. The Region 2 DVDs exibit a lot of the same problems, FYI.

For the video quality,it is significantly worse than the R2 DVDs. The color is sooo screwed up. On my Eva vid I made, I had to filter my R2 video to try and make it look as bad as the R1 dvd, as sadly, I was unable to get the color of the R1s to match my R2. Also the encoding quality of the R1 DVDs was quite poor. I saw macroblocks on my television set! As far as their subbing, it was piss poor IMO. I caught AT LEAST THREE spelling errors! Do they not proofread this stuff? I'm sorry I can't point out where these errors were at the moment, as I dont have my DVDs with me. To top it all off, I was APPALLED when I saw that they actually had overlapping subtitles in some parts! How can a person be expected to read overlapping words? And they didnt even keep a consistent font over the whole series. The latter font was much nicer at least though, as the original was so wide and spaced out that I had to strain to read it. Too bad that was the font used over most of the eps...
