Read ermac's guide, it did the jop for me.

But seriously man, the guides we ahve here are more than enough! You can't get perfect DVD quality with mpeg1 or any divx codec. Ermac's guide is good enough to get the best quality possible! Now go read it again.

Ok fine I'll read it again but if it still does not help me, I'll hunt you down and stabb you in the face!!! Is that ok? :D

BTW is this SIG too big for you guys to dl or is it just a pain? or both?

Most likely yes but I figured I ask.

If Ermac's guide didn't work, then you're doing something wrong. It has worked for all those who truly _try_

And the pic in the sig is way to big. It's against teh forum rules, it needs to be standard banner width/height.

He's not trying to use the DVD for a AMV, he's trying to make a DVD rip of it.

Now what the people who did love hina again properly did was:

Purchase the high kwality R2 DVD of Love Hina again.

Then they did IVTC on it. Then used a a program like nandub to encode it. Now when they used nandub, they probably KNEW what the hell they were doing. No one is going to tell you exactly what each setting is because it would take forever to explain and would most likely go over your head. Heck most of the nandub stuff goes over my head :\ That's what guides are for :P

Now also keep an eye on two factors. Bitrate & resolution. All NTSC dvds come in a @ 720x480. You must resize this to the proper aspect ratio, like I was saying earlier in our conversations. Also the bitrate they used was 135KiloBytes/sec which roughly equals out 1080kilobits/sec.

So they have a high bitrate here, a good resolution. They did IVTC to remove all th extra telecined frames, then encoded it with nandub with advanced settings, manual keyframing and 2-pass rendering.

Those people know what they're doing and they've been encoding stuff for a long time to get to were they are. They're the kind of people who hang out at doom9.org all the time and post about new vdub filters or which divx codec is better.. :\ or things like 'convolution matrices'...

This stuff is hard, that's why it ain't easy... ;p

Whcih group was that encode by? I did a couple of ANBU's encodes of Love Hina Again...

the R2's were beautiful in quality. It was easy to work with.

And frankly I'm not even gonna try to read your original post because it is so incoherenly littered with those stupid emote icons that it borders on the incomprehensible.

Encoding AMVs is totally different than encoding generalize Anime. Anime usually has a whole lot of almost still frames where the only thing happening is someone's lips are flapping. that makes for easy compression. Using newer techniques and filters like CopySame to reduce filesize makes encoding anime episodes very easy, especially when you have flawless DVD source.
AMVs are an entirely different beast. They are usually high motion, with not perfect quality because you've gone through at least a color conversion even when you use straight DVD into Premiere.

OK I actually attempted to read your post.

Asking for step by step directions on how to get the best quality in the smallest space is one of the most rediculous things I've heard said in this particular sub forum.

THERE IS NO PERFECT WAY. Different Situations require different methods, different filters, different bitrates.

If there was some simple point and click way to get perfect quality, guess what? Everyone would have it. But they don't.

You want to know the perfect way to encode? Figure it out for your f@#%ing self. Gee, you're going to stab the people who spent the time to write guides just because they aren't what YOU want. Jesus H. Christ, when did the guides only become about YOU? Self-centered prick.

If you want to know how to encode things the best, here's what you do: Spend time doing RESEARCH. Experiment, read, experiment, read some more, re-read the first stuff you read, catch up with all the stuff that's CHANGED since the last time you read the most recent stuff (because every month something changes, something which can affect quality at least a semi-substantial amount), etc etc...

I've been encoding anime now for going on half a decade. I started making RealVideo G2 encodes of Sailor Moon fansubs back in high school. I've had five years of experience. And you know what? I'm still learning, I still don't know everything, and I sure as hell am not gonna take time out of my schedule to sit there and hold your hand when I spent hundreds of hours learning all the stuff I do know because you wouldn't get it and you're not worth my time.

Ergo - you, good sir, can kiss my f@#^ing ass.

ErMaC is totally right. I think it's hillarious that you sit there and say you've been at this for two weeks like you think thats long enough for you to become the god of video encoding or something. I've been encoding for TWO YEARS, and like ErMaC, I'm still learning all the time. The fact is, there is NOTHING you can do to get a perfect encode except to test, test, and test some more. You want to be a good encoder, here are some tips:
Read the forums at http://www.doom9.org/ daily.
Test every video filter for virtualdub or avisynth that you can get your hands on.
Get various anime DVDs and encode them. Find some of crappy quality, and some that are very clean. Note how differently the encodes come out.
Encode hundreds and hundreds of clips with various settings and filters, learn what it all does, make observations and then test some more.
Next,
Finally, realize that AMVs are not going to be small usually. They have too much motion. a Typical AMV could run about 80MB if you wanted to get the best quality out of it. My recent Super GALs video is under 3 minutes long, yet it would have run over 100MB if I had encoded it at the best quality.

Okay okay, Ermac thank you..... I didn't think of it that way. I apologize for my rudeness. I guess I had to take a smack in the face with words from you to realize my mistake. Like I said I did make this first posting around 1am, to tired to think. I get carryed away sometimes, I was never good at the forums thing anyway.....

As for waht group it was made from... It doesn't say anywhere, it originaly came from japan so I'm not sure.

Well back to work for me I'm on my 140th hour of testing or something like that.... Once I find out how it is all done, I'll post my own thing instead of raping others people work. I'm just glad I got a good computer to work with, or I would of been a real ass. :(

Back to the Drawing board.
