Yippie, more AVIsynth problems

Postby Yogurtron » Sat Aug 31, 2002 2:19 am

Yes, I'm back, and AVIsynth has thoroughly pissed me off today. It works well in the general sense, but i've noticed several little annoying things, that can simply ruin a video.

When I'm using a fade in my video, half the time, when I'm using AVIsynth files, the fade will be pulled off correctly EXCEPT for the last frame, where it shows what I was fading from for a moment, at 100% opacity, when it should be at 0.

And here's another question unrelated to AVIsynth specifically. WHen I rendered my video, still at 720x480 resolution, uncompressed AVI, the vide would catch, and I looked at the properties while it was playing, saying the average FPS was about 19, and that 0 frames had been dropped. Now... I rendered it at 23.97 or 24 fps, and it's showing at 19 FPS...... what happened to the frames i didn't see if they weren't dropped? I'm still wondering why a geforce 2 GTS and a 1.4 ghz processor are having problems running the file... but that's besides the point... i'm just wondering what happened to the unseen frames, that were not "dropped."

I also thoroughly enjoy my attempt at green screening. I tried to green screen a character into a scene which they orrignally weren't. I took a still, greened the parts i didn't want to see, and put it through the Green screen transparency. I had to do this to each frame, because the place I wanted to cut off the other scene kept moving. I build a preview... and the pictures rythmically pulse from translucent to opaque. I can understand it being translucent on all of them, or opaque on all of them (just meaning that I have to change the cutoff and whatnot)... however I am perplexed as to why they would rythmically pulse... with identical pictures, and identical settings (minus that clipping thing (it's the wondow in the top right corner of the transparency dialog box dealy, nobody has told me the name of that yet). I'd like any input on that, if anybody can figure that one out (I know I sure can't).

I'm probably coming off as a raving idiot right now... but I'm just pissed at this program doing things it shouldn't. Anyway..... I'd better calm down and stop raving. Anyway, any help would be appreciated. Arrigato

1) This would happen to me alot with ALL kinds of video, it's because of my shakey mouse skills or something, but this picture may explain what happens:
Image

Basically you grasp the frame before the last and drag it down, instead of the actual last frame. So it fades out, then suddenly pop you get a frame w/o transperancy at the end.

2) Uncompressed video is really large. 24.3MB/sec for uncompressed video @ 720x480x24bits. Your hard drive is probably not able to keep up and from all that hard drive accessing your CPU slows, so it gets skippy. Try exporting out in DivX and see if it plays back better.

3)As for Green Screening stuff. I wouldn't use the actual Green Screen Key, I would use Chroma Key and key out the color, set 'Similarity' to 1 and leave all the other values @ 0. Make sure when you add the 'Green' that it is RGB0,255,0(pure green). Don't use feathered brushes either as those have a gradient of green around the edge, use a pencil tool instead.

I would then take your edited images and slap them together. Make a AVI out of them. Then take the AVI and import to premiere. This way you can fiddle with the Key settings without having to apply the key setting to EACH AND EVERY FRAME

If you still have trouble reply back ;)

Thank you for the help, but they're still having problems.

The tranparency one is actually when I'm using the "cross dissolve." THe preview shows it fine, exactly how i want it, but when i make it into an AVI it has that pop at the end... no clue why it would do that.. and the dissolve is the exact length of the clip it's dissolving out of... or into.. one of them, so it's not a problem with me not having the dissolve off by a frame.. unfortuantely.. heh, that'd be an easy fix

THe uncompressed video problem wasn't really a problem. I guess I should have a SCSI HD to play that back correctly at uncompressed, but oh well. The only question i was wondering was why the properties in WMP said I had dropped no frames, yet it was showing a 24fps video at about 19fps (i'm just wondering what exactly happened to the unseen 5 frames each second.. that apparantly weren't dropped).

And as for hte green screen... I tried the chroma... but it is still doing the rythmic pulsing....

Anyway... there's the update. I do appologize if I sound a bit pissed still... Adobe has not exactly made this night all that pleasant for me.

The only thing I can think of for a transition not function properly is if the settings are incorrect or if you don't have the transition covering the last from of the say track A(when doing a A to B transfer). Just make sure the setting on the left is @ 0% and the setting on the right is @ 100%. If that is how it's setup and it still fails to work, try using the rubberbands.

I was playing a DivX file in Media Player and is was playing @ 17fps at some points, I don't think those stastics are accurate. It's possible for video to playback slowly, but not have dropped frames, since it's slowing down/stuttering to catch up and frames are not being dropped.

For the Green Screen, try consolidating them into one AVI. Make sure it's lossless either HuffYUV or uncomrpessed. Make sure none of the greens vary in any way... Other them that??? Post some image captures on when the Green Screen works, and when it's not working...
