TMPGEnc Plus - MPEG-2 Settings

Postby Bushido Philosopher » Sun Aug 25, 2002 10:16 pm

Since I got it none of the settings I put in really come up with good output. Anyone have any suggestions on the settings for MPEG-2?
(Note that this is not for a music video; otherwise I'd use MPEG-1. i'm just looking for good settings.)

You could try the settings supplied by AWA for MPEG-2 contest submissions and see how it turns out:

Try importing the NTSC DVD settings file that comes with TMPGEnc.

No dice.....yeesh, what a pain in the rear.... :?

Well, I have the general idea of what to set it at...

this is relative to ErMaC's MPEG-1 method only i tweaked it a bit:

720 x 480 size

MVBR @ 500 min, 7000 max

This is around what I think is best. I would use 2-Pass, but now it takes like 10x more time than MVBR (for MPEG-2 remember, not MPEG-1). And it's long already.

So while I start to experiment some more, please, if you have what I'm looking for then type away!!!

Your question's been answered twice. The fact that you don't like the answers is your fault.

Nope, just didn't like the output. I could care less about the file size. There was so much block noise that I couldn't stand it.

MPEG-2 should be for my close friends because i can just give it to them on disc. some of my encodings are like 6 min for 200 MB.

there was block noise?

but the profiles have the search presition set to max... use CQ_VBR set to 100% with a 8 megabit per second maximum, use the animation quant matrix, and everything...

I thought the only way to increase the quality in those profiles would be to manually set each key frame

Are you attempting to record TV static by chance?

What is the source on this thing? DVD,VHS??
Did you try de-interlacing/IVTCing it?

I really can't see how a video w/MPEG2 @ 8mbit/sec wouldn't look good

I dunno....maybe someone messed with the setting files or something.

I was perplexed myself cause of course something with a 8MB limit would be almost perfect huh?

Probably I messed something up after I put the setting file in....ionno.
I apologize for being a pain. Thanks guys.
