Help! DV cameras and software

Postby Celiss Galvea » Sun Aug 25, 2002 6:34 am

Hi! I'm a newbie. so please PLEASE forgive me if I'm being stupid ^_^;;

I bought a DV camera (JVC 507 model) recently and an additional firewire which comes with Ulead Video Studio Ver. 5. My problems:

1. I tried recording using Windows Movie Maker the first time round, but the quality was, quite frankly, terrible. The audio turned out to be choppy, and the video was horribly pixelated in full screen mode. The only good thing about it was the file size, which was about 78mb for 50 mins. Is there any way at all to improve the quality?

2. After Windows Movie Maker, I tried Ulead. Saving it as a movie file took forever; I had to leave my computer on all night. There were no pixelations at full screen mode, but there were these thin black lines around figures that are moving about. Is this normal? The file size is also killing me: 1 GB for 50 mins. Also, I have mysteriously lost 10 GB after recording...

3. Which recording software is currently the best? And should I save my movies as mpegs, avis or wmvs?

4. Is there anyway at all to record at a faster speed? Or do you have to sit through all 60 mins of it?

I am currently using a Pentium III (599 MHz) with 320MB Ram. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated!
