Vid is shaking

Postby Wyverex » Mon Jul 01, 2002 2:20 pm

I ripped Death & Rebirth off using Huffyuv codec and when I read the (4 Go, ouch) file the vid is shaking. Not a lot : it's only visible with still sequences.

What can I do about it? I tried to reencode the film but it keeps shaking...

I think my DVD ripp on my HD (.ifo, etc. files) has this problem too...
How is this possible? I don't remember Eva was shaking when I watched it.

I used CladDVD XP. Should I use another DVD ripper?

What you mean exactly with shaking? Moving one pixel up and one pixel down?

And do this happen in the file you stripped from the DVD or in your video (if you made one)?

Seems strange... maybe an interlacing problem though
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.

Yep it's moving about one or two pixel up and down.

DivX as Huffyuv encoding have this problem.

When I "read" the film in FlaskMPEG (by moving slowly the main slider) it shakes too... That's why I think my D&R DVD ripp is corrupted.

But should I use another DVD ripper or is it originally in the film?

I tried without deinterlacing but it didn't change anything.

It's likely that the print of EoE has some jitter - which is really nasty annoying stuff.

Is it the recent French Manga Video release?

I'm not really sure how you'd correct this - maybe a temporal smoother would help, I'm not sure.

Thats just how the video is, there isn't really anything that can be done to fix it, aside from manually adjusting the frames that jump, which would take QUITE a bit of time and really wouldnt be worth it.

I have sort of noticed this problem. It is present in some scenes, most noticably when Shinji falls on top of Rei. If you watch that seen you'll notice it moves a bit. This is becaues GAiNAX is famous for their horrible filming jobs. Jitter, bad splices, etc all plague almost every pre-FLCL Gainax show, from KareKano to Eva to Nadia.

End of Evangelion does not exibit the same kind of jittering problems, but Death (since it was TV animated on a TV budget, for the most part) does.

K so it's in the film.

I'll delete jumping frames (in my AMV I mean, not in the whole film...).

Thanks anyway.

You can fix jitter with the Production Bundle of After Effects v5.0 and v5.5 (maybe earlier as well, I don't know). Use the Motion Tracker/Stabilizer under the Animation menu. The tool works VERY well, but you'll need to have a background element with no motion (a shot with a moving forground but non-panning/moving background), and you'de need to do it for each shot.

I'm not sure I'de bother with it, but the only reason you might want to is your video might compress a bit better.

Stupid question : any loss of quality?

I can't really afford After Effect but this tool seems to be exactly what I need... Any other prog?

I tried some plugins but they don't work very well...

Not to my eye, but it's a very subjective thing. If you're interested in this feature of AE, somebody put a tutorial up at www.creativecow.net worth a look.

Your best bet would be to get a different version of Death and Rebirth. You could either buy the legit or a HK(possibly this one is a HK, if it is then don't get another), cheaper then AE.

I have a HK copy of both EoE & D&R, but they both have this white line across the top.

 don't buy hk dvd's kids

I can't delete jumping frames because it's not only one frame jumping... it's something like 10 frames OK, 10 frames jumping...

I'll do my AMV with my crappy version and I'll get an import if it's really too annoying... Can you assure me this happens only on the european release?

By the way what's HK?
