Help with Codec and Exportation

Postby kavren » Wed Aug 14, 2002 6:13 pm

I'm rather new at AMV making and I'm having some difficulty with exporting using the DivX codec.

I'm using the DivX 5.0.2 Codec and Adobe 6.0. When ever I play the AMV back in the "DivX Player Alpha 2.0" it runs smooth more often than not but the audio sounds like it's coming from a tin can. If I play the video in either the Real One Player program or Windows Media Player, the sound is fine *but* at certain points the DivX video will pause for a moment, then suddenly speed up *real* quick to make up for the pause just a moment ago, then go at a normal pace. Mind you, the video slow down then speed up happens only with the actual video, the audio stays smooth. More often than not, the DivX Aplha 2.0 doesn't have the video slow down speed up problem, just that funkey tin can audio problem.

I've had these basic problems with every video I've made with the DivX codec, plus there are some videos that I have downloaded that use DivX and I have the same problem with them too. My computer has a k6 750 with 128 ram and 40G hd. Would anyone be able to help me with this problem or point me to a website with more specific info on this problem? I know there is a configureation window for the DivX codec but uhhhhhh wow, I'm kinda lost there. Thank's all for your time =)))

Okay well.

First Premiere doesn't work properly when importing DivX or exporting it. It plan sucks at it. Premiere was not meant really for web export(probably why they include cleaner 5 and quicktime). Your best bet is to export in something other then DivX 5. Off the top of my head, I would suggest HuffYUV, but that doesn't playback smooth in mplayer either.

Check your Premire Audio|Video settings. Make sure the frame rate is the same for both your Project settings and video settings. Make sure your Audio settings are the same as the audio you imported.

Try a different flava of DivX. Like say DivX 3.11a or DivX4.12.

What I usually do is export a MJPEG file @ 75% quality. But MJPEG codecs aren't free so that may not help you.

Also you probably have a Athlon or a Duron(both with K7 'cores'), since they never made a K6 that ran @ 750Mhz...

They aren't?

:)

(yeah, you can't use them, but that doesn't mean they don't exist :P )

I should rephrase:

Aren't free for people who don't want to install loonix on their system.

What's the best program to edit, make, and export AMV's in? I.E. Adobe etc...

I use Adobe Premiere, is is by far the easiest quality editor out there.

I export in HuffYUV and use VirtualDub to export to some variation of DivX. I enjoy 3.11a, though a bunch of my stuff was exported in various 4.x codecs because I was "experimenting".

Other people use other programs. I believe the two most popular are Windows Movie Maker and Premiere, with the most probably using Premiere since Windows Movie Maker sucks and Premiere is so easily pirated  .
