How to blow my hand up.

Things really don't start getting difficult until you uhh try to do windowed feathered video... Still haven't found a good way of doing that.

Or doing a transform on a greenscreen item, because when you do greenscreen, it doesn't allow for alpha transperancy too!!!! Which is bad. So if you do greenscreen, removes the green, but add the transform of say scale X:50% Y:%50, all you'll get is a black background with your greenscreened clip playing, but nothing is playing in the background...Grrr.

Anyways Premiere is actually quite simple and the basics are pretty simple..

My main tools are Razor, rubber bands, speed and image pan.

Don't really know of anything "difficult" since when I looked in the manual, I went "doh that was easy...". I mean, you want split screen, search the help for split screen". You want transperancy, search the help for "transperancy". Really pretty simple.

Hm? Is this not "good enough"?

- Create windowed video with window where you want. Export a frame.
- In paint program, draw white rectangle in window, make rest of image black.
- In paint program, gaussian blur with desired radius. (ensure no non-black is outside of window)
- Use image as image matte.

(blah blah I don't have Premiere here to check if I've got black/white right, but there's a checkbox to reverse it anyway in the image transparency window)

The problem there is that stupid Premiere, uses the image matte as alpha, plus it doesn't apply any effects to it, like transforms :( .

So while you can have one full sized clip playing with the "feathery" effect. You can't really do any "layering".

After Effects is kinda l33t as you can do it quite easily, since it has a actual feather option ;p

Iam pretty alien to After Effects and don't use it ;) . Plus I haven't really had a need for the effect as of yet, so  - :p

If by mentioning transforms, you mean you want the window to move, then yeah, I haven't played with that much yet, but for layering, can't you just use a grey rectangle instead of the white one mentioned above?

(I didn't mention AE in part because the topic is strictly Premiere)

If you want to apply effects to it, then you use Track Matte instead of image matte, they are the same thing, effectively.

You may be wise beyond your years young destiny.....

Ummmmm, that could possibly work...

dokidoki, don't worry about the AE thing, I wasn't suggesting that you should have suggested it, just mentioning that it was there...

Well... Well this may be interesting.. maybe I'll go mess with it... maybe I won't ;p <---lazy ass bum..

Hmmm.... I am not 100% sure on this, but if you do the transform with the motion settings you are able to set the color of the background. Set it to pure green and you'll have your clip rescaled and green-screened (or at least I think :P)

But I do agree with you... AE is so much l33t :D
You should never underestimate the predictability of stupidity.
