::sighs:: Premiere crashes with DiVX, and ONLY DiVX

Postby looktothesky » Thu Aug 08, 2002 10:45 pm

I've tried multiple DiVX files, different compression ratios, updated to Premiere 6.02, run DivFix on the files (no errors BTW) and I still get an Illegal Operation from Preminfo.dll

I know htis question has been asked like 34827934 times before, but I'm getting frustrated that NONE of my DiVX-encoded files are working!! Which means no more music videos for the time being :(

Any suggestions on 1) a fix or 2) new software?

You can't reliably use DivX source in Premiere. If you'd read any of the e^20673809465230985 previous posts asking this question, yuou'd know this.

Oh, right. Forgot to mention about a fix.

All those other posts also mention how to get around the problem. :-D

Well, if you have the space, you can transcode to another format.

This is how I do it - premiere doesn't like the YUY2 format sometimes, but usually it works fine with it. Either that, or use DivX and be veeery careful with which functions you use: a poorly encoded DivX file gives Premeire more problems than one encoded well.

If I'm using DVD source footage, I just encode the source footage into MPEG and then use it in Premiere, it works well. I don't like DiVX in Premiere, even though it will work.

You really don't lose much quality, as far as I can tell. I can use HuffYUV anyway, because my hard drive only has 7GB free. I can't wait till I get a new PC and the motherboard supports raid, so my dad is getting me either 2 40GB HDs, or 2 80GB HDs to RAID together.

Well, I actually don't know if he's gonna buy me the HDs for RAID, but he most likely will.
