Yorokobi I've used Pinnacles program in the past, and I have the new version of studio 8 although since I've invested so much time into premiere that generally I don't use it much.

It's an excellent program. It's a single track editing system, with hundreds of canned transition effects. Studio likes to use a capture board, and can work directly with mpeg 1 and 2 files. You can also export with these formats with no loss in speed as it is usually hardware encoded. Real time previews and transitions are one of the major selling points. If you have an older board, contact pinnacle, they have a buyback/upgrade policy that kicks ass.

Personally I've never really liked the scrubbing system for timing music to video, but your mileage may vary.

I'm also not super fond of the big honkin' interface. It feels like I'm wasting work area somehow.

Hope that helps.

Sorry, "there is no edit button". The hope was that corrections and updates would be made by posting replies in this thread...as you've done.

I had different problems with Video Studio and stopped using it. You might consider VideoFactory (from either Sonic Foundry or Sony, it's the same program). It's under $100, easy to use with only two video tracks, does panning and zoom and a bunch of built-in effects. I made several AMVs with it before moving up. At first I had it running on a 600 MHz (PII) Celeron, although currently I'm running it on an 800 MHz PIII.

You'll find some reviews on the Software page (link from your member home page).

I use the free Irfanview for my image editing (granted its mediocre but). Irfanview + Paintbrush > Photoshop in my experiance, and it's got media playing, capturing capability etc.

Cross-platform ... multimedia tool. Really, that's the best way for me to describe this thing. It does video editing, 3D animation, audio editing and music composition, simple (2-layer) compositing...all kinds of stuff.

It's in a very early stage right now, but nevertheless, it's interesting.
