But this goes out to anyone who uses avisynth to edit vob's. Basicly when I try to use alt+click on frame, it wont render that one frame. I use a DV500 but I don't think tha'ts the problem. It's kinda weird, i'm just wondering if anyone gets this?

Most likely a quirk between Premiere and AviSynth.....

If you have a DV500, there are ways you can import mpeg2 directly into Premiere.

3.0 software:

Klinky... Do you use the Valid TC prog to import MPEG2 files into premiere and then edit them? I've tried it and it seems to work however, what do you do about the interlacing? Do you leave it there or is there something you do to deinterlace? Technically I guess it shouldn't matter since it is after all on the DVD when you watch it.[/quote]

~Rise from your grave~

I actually do not have a DV500, I was making a suggestion ;)

I do happen by change get ahold of Premiere 6.5, which has native support for mpeg2, so all you need to do is demux the video out of the vob....

As for interlacing, it's really not a problem unless there is telecining involved.. GRR which there always is. So! I suck a IVTC so I just leave it be @ 29.97fps and use a area-based de-interlace util.

I hear coud things about decomb w/ AviSynth, but I haven't played with it since I haven't been making many AMVs as of late..

I don't know why people always insist on editing without interlacing. If you've got a DV500, that means you're working in NTSC. NTSC IS INTERLACED. There is no need to deinterlace it or muck with the video at all unless you want to edit in film framerate in progressive, and that means no preview output to a video monitor, quircks with Premiere's Timebase system, and either realtime IVTC which is slow or huge prerendered files to work from if you want to know what your final product's going to look like.

Just edit the damn thing interlaced. You can either deinterlace it afterwards for online distro or IVTC it after it's been exported. This works very well most of the time. Hell, of the 16 videos I've encoded for online distro (4 are not available yet) 13 of them are in 23.976fps. That's better than 80%, for pete's sake. And I'll tell you up front only three of those videos were actually edited in 24fps to start with - and that was a pain in the butt for me because later on when I want to turn them back into 29.97fps video to submit to contests or to backup to DV tape I have to jump through hoops to get them back into the proper framerate after re-telecining them.

It's far easier with a DV500 to edit in 29.97fps, use that to submit to cons and stuff, and for online distro just IVTC it.
