Hrm, tough choice, I'll be sure to try the 640 by 400 or 352 and see what it looks like. But I know when I tried 352 the bald guys head looked really ovular, maybe its cause I didn't crop 8 pixels off of each side or something? Should I crop anything or just resize?sayde wrote:IIRC, the actual aspect ratio is supposedly neither 4:3 nor 16:9, but is instead something in between (if you believe that). It had something to do with being able to be viewed correctly on televisions regardless of what aspect ratio the TV displays. I'm not sure if it's true or not, but it sounds plausible to me.

I was told to simply resize the footage. Of course, what I was told was hardly an official answer. My recommendation is to do whatever it takes to look right to you. When it comes to fmv footage like this, I don't think people are going to come down too hard on you w/ regards to using the correct resolution (since the actual correct resolution is more or less a mystery). I mean, I've tried sticking w/ the fmv's native 512 by 352 resolution size, but it still looks off to me.
When you get a chance, test out that 640x400 resolution I suggested before. I'm curious to find out what you think.
One more thing. Setting the AR flag to 16:9 *might* help. I don't know if you can do this with other codecs, but I know you can configure xvid to get the job done.

Ok so I tried them at different resolutions and took some screenshots so we can compare, I used your rip sayde as a 352 example if its ok.
But here they are:
640 by 480

640 by 400

640 by 352

Out of all tries, 640 by 400 appears to be the most balanced. Its not too wide, its not to fat...352 also looks great.
So yep, these are my results.

Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, I tried this and it didn't work to well, it stretched it out to much. Square pixels worked best for some reason.sayde wrote: One more thing.
