Dv500. Yet if you don't have an editing system yet and want a new program then purchase Pinnacle Studio DV since that comes with a card for you.

dv500 even comes with a copy of Premiere 6, it's kinda meant to work with Premiere.

So yes, it should work. It's a little spendy tho.

I used the DC10+ before I got a DV500 and it's a good first card. It's only about $80, while the DV500 is about $500. I'm pretty sure the DC10 has drivers for WindowsMe, but not Windows2000. But I'm not sure if Pinnacle still makes DC10, in which case you'd have to go to ebay or something and settle with little tech support.

As far as compatibility, it's pretty much a crap shoot. You could check out their site, pinnaclesys.com, but they're not too informative when it comes to compatibility.

If you already have a DV camcorder, then just get a cheap DV card.

video capture card hunting

Post by ericb35 » Fri Jul 19, 2002 4:20 pm

instead of starting a new thread, ill just post my problem here ....

like DuoEnigma i am in the hunt for a video capture card. unlike DuoEnigma i am on a very tight budget. im looking for the best quality for the dollar. the DV500 is out of the question. my comp is not bad, 800mhz athlon wiht 384mb SDRAM ... im a newbie to the video capture card world, but i think after fuddling with it i can figure it out (or ask a freind for help).

anyways, i was thinking about going with ATI's AIW Radeon 7500 64mb and it is listed on pricewatch for about $130. now is AIW Radeon good for me and is it worth the price? or is there something out there better?

thanks for your time. later!

I started editing on the AIW cards from ATI using Premiere, they are VERY worth it, but sometimes hard to learn for newbies. The only thing I don't like about them is the fact you have to replace your existing video card to use it. I'm looking into a card made by Koutech/Kouwell called a 606RSF or 607A.

606RSF Specs:
• Capture full color NTSC/PAL/SECAM signals
• 24-bit color at up to 30 frames per second (live!)
• Selectable at 160x120 pixels, 320x240 pixels and 640x480 pixels
• Built-in RISC engine (Reduced Instruction Set Computing).
• Provides full-rate rectangle clipping for windows management
• Enables video decoding performance under poor signal conditions
• Supports video conferencing, video editing and video surveillance
• Supports MAIN/SAP/Mono/Stereo output
• 181 full-channels TV Tuner, including broadcast and cable TV
• Supports FM radio output
• PCI specifications v. 2.1 compliant
• Support Windows® 98SE/Me/2000/XP

Order Number# KW-606RSF

Package contents:
• One (1) TV tuner, FM radio, and video capture PCI card (KW-606RSF)
• One (1) remote control
• One (1) FM antenna
• One (1) audio out cable
• One (1) remote sensor cable
• One (1) software driver CD
• User’s manual

607A Specs:
Specifications:
• Capture full color NTSC / PAL / SECAM signals
• 24-bit color at up to 30 frames per second
• 160 X 120 pixels, 320 X 240 pixels, and 640 X 480 pixels
• PCI BUS Master interface
• Built-in RISC (Reduced Instruction Set Computing) engine
• Provides full-rate rectangle clipping for window management
• Enables video decoding performance under poor signal conditions
• Connect your camcorder, VCR, or laser disc player
• Includes Direct Draw drivers
• Supports YUV 4:2:2, 4:1:1, and RGB 32, 24, 15 Output
• Supports video conferencing, editing, and surveillance
• PCI specifications v. 2.1 compliant
• Support Windows® 98SE/Me/2000/XP

Order Number# KW-607A

Package contents:
• One (1) video capture PCI card (KW-607A)
• One (1) software driver CD
• User’s manual

both cards range around the $60 mark. I haven't foudn any reviews or complaints about them though, but i do know from experience that everything else Koutech makes will last a VERY long time.
