Stupid Noobish Video Hardware Question But...
...I was just curious. What are the official (technical) names of these video hardware devices:
1.The video hardware you use that's able to transfer episodes recorded on a VHS onto a DVD disc.
2.The video hardware that you use to capture episodes that air on TV, then transfer them onto the computer.
&
3.The video hardware used to record stuff from television STR8 onto a DVD disc!

Isn't that the two-VCR method?Booncy wrote:2.The video hardware that you use to capture episodes that air on TV, then transfer them onto the computer.

#1: can be achieved by useing a capture card and a dvd burner
#2: you use a capture card (must have a tv tuner too...like this one)
#3: some capture cards also have software that let you record to dvd

look at the two stickies on the top of this section
you could get a capture card that lets you plug in the a/v cables from your system into your computer and use the recording program that comes with the capture card or a program like fraps (if the two sitckies don't help/if you want to capture gamecube/wii or xbox/360 footage)

Unless you've got a fast computer, or let your computer do nothing else but capture, you might want to get a box that allows for hardware encoding.
That is to say, all of the encoding's done in the box without causing a load on your computer's processor.
An example is the Plextor ConvertX PX-M402U, which is what I use to pull VHS material into my computer. I've also used it to get stuff from our DirecTV DVR, which is in another room than my computer.
