Need help with capture cards

Postby KoRn_Child » Tue Feb 07, 2006 12:43 am

I need to get footage from Silent Hill 2 (for PS2) onto my computer so I can make the video I'm planning. Not only do I need the CG sequences, but some of the game engine cut-scenes as well.

I'm assuming I need a capture card to do this, so I was hoping you guys could give me some recommendations. My PS2 is connected to a PC monitor via a VGA box using S-Video cables.

So... what kind of card do I need? I'm probably only going to use it a few times (for Silent Hill 2 and maybe the Metal Gear Solid games), so I don't want anything too fancy (translation: expensive). What do you guys recommend?

Thanks for the help, I greatly appreciate it!

ATI TV Wonder, the lowest end model, I use it to watch and record video onto my PC. It is about $30 if I remember correctly, real easy to install PCI card, the software works just like a VCR.

There is a small lag between button presses and results on the screen through a capture card, something like 1/7 of a second as the video is converted to your PC, it is noticable while attempting to play a game, but you get used to it quickly.

Don't get a hardware encoder (anything Media Center certified I think) because they don't show you whats on the screen in real time.
