Good amd dual core socket 939 motherboard?

Postby Castor Troy » Fri Dec 02, 2005 8:12 pm

Ever since I got my amd dual core, I've been able to export video at pretty decent speeds like less than 10 minutes which rocks... but at the cost of getting craploads of BSODs (Blue screens of death) like the pfn list, IRQ not less than equal, etc...

I know it's probably not the ram since I ran memtest and it passed all the tests...

This is the guilty motherboard that I bought with my amd dual core. I was lucky to get it in a bundle bargain price but now it's pretty obvious that I got what I paid for. Avoid it at all costs :x

At the time when I purchased it, there weren't that many bad reviews. Now over a month later, a whole bunch of bad reviews keep coming in. So now I assume it's the motherboard and it's crappy drivers. Just recently my sound stopped working so I had to system restore and turn off automatic updates. What a load of crap.

Can anyone recommend a good amd dual core socket 939 compatible motherboard that results in less BSODs or possibly... none? :)

Thanks!

I personally don't like matx boards with onboard video. It looks like the chipset is buggy on that board. I've heard good things about Asus boards but they are picky about which memory to use. I like Gigabyte boards, I think the GA-K8N pro SLI looks good. It has an nForce 4 SLI chipset, this has been the chipset of choise for AMD processors. I don't know if you have a video card, but this board with a low cost video card should be good for editing.
I'm planning to build a new system with this board, a gig of crucial ram, an AMD 64-3700 processor, and an ATi AIW 600 pro.
Where did you say I'm going?.... And what am I doing in a handbasket?

Do you need a MicroATX board for some reason? I've been using an Epox EP-9NPA+ Ultra since I built my new computer this summer (based on the nVIDIA nForce4 Ultra chipset), and I've been quite happy with it.

Also don't forget to make sure your power supply is up to the task.

I was a little too hasty and cheap so I decided to go with an mb with onboard video to save money... what a smart move that was..

I recently got a pretty good power supply so I think I'm all set.

You don't have to get that specific board.
I got it purely for my gaming/online needs.
Eventually I want to do SLI with the BFG 7800 GTX that's already on it.

My other system is the editing monster.
It's a 3800 x2 as well with a BIOSTAR TForce6100-939 Micro ATX board inside an ASPIRE X-QPACK-BK case.
I'm using the onboard video for now until I get my MSI 6800 pci-e card(cheap).
I have problems running Maya with the onboard video...

Ah ok..

Regardless, I'm still getting a cheapass video card and will not be using the onboard video...

Thanks!

What's the BSOD rate on the biostar?

Don't discount the possibility of overheating. I tend to get IRQ errors when overclocking. Check your temps before doing anything otherwise if it is overheating you will get the same problems whatever motherboard you use.

Edit: I just checked the case and I wouldn't be at all surprised if it was overheating due to it's size, but obviously I can't comment on how well ventilated it is.
