Lag while capturing Playstation 2 footage

Postby Bushido Philosopher » Fri Dec 02, 2005 12:07 am

I apologize if this has been asked before. I'm an old member but I've been out of the community for a long time.

I am wondering if anyone has had any lag while capturing from a PS2, or any RCA input device from an ATI All in Wonder card. Google didn't really turn up anything for me.

When I'm "playing", there is a lag from when I do something with the controller to the screen. The actual audio and video are in sync though. The problem is getting to different cutscenes so that I can capture them. The lag is annoying enough for me to not play effectively.

I'm seeing that other people have a similar problem while I was on that google search. I just didn't get to a good solution. If anyone has an alternative program that I could use then I can probably figure out if it's the software or the hardware.

Thanks.

hmm...I think the lag results from the method you use.
info has to go from the disk to the ps2 to the tv/capture card to your computer (not to mention all the wire involved). I had the same problem with trying to play my ps2 on my laptop (using an ati all-in-wonder usb2.0 tv tuner)
there is a guide that outlines procedures and programs to get video game footage
Quu's guide
I haven't personally used this, so I couldn't help with troubleshooting.
I would use caution, as I believe one of the sites has a virus (found this out through going to the link), so make sure you have a firewall and good antiviral software (preferably an on-acess scanner)

Unfortunately, that guide is insufficient nowadays.

More and more games are relying on real-time cinema rather than pre-rendered. And even then, it's been getting very difficult to even get those pre-rendered movies. I was actually involved in the current stickies about all that.

OK, you guys are giving me "ripping" methods. I am simply trying to get my capture card to work properly in true real time. Do not post anything that is listed in the stickies.
